Learning Specialist /Learning Consultant-T8- Based on Experience

The Personal Lines Performance Enablement Learning Specialist is accountable for delivering core training programs and other formal learning events. The Learning Specialist is accountable for providing new and existing employees with the functional and technical process knowledge to prepare them to achieve business goals. In conjunction with their manager, this individual will perform first line supervision of entry-level trainees during the initial training period; including managing attendance, addressing behavioral and performance issues. This position would also be responsible for using structured development and measurement tools to ensure program effectiveness and providing exceptional experience. The Learning Specialist should be able to perform these functions with minimal direction. This individual will partner closely with the Performance Enablement Design and Knowledge Management teams to implement solutions for Personal Lines Operations. This will include on-site classroom and virtual facilitation for Personal Lines Operations in Enterprise Operations , including AARP Sales, AARP Customer Service, AARP Customer Care Special Services, Agency, and Billing.


  • Facilitates classroom/virtual learning sessions; primarily at the introductory and advanced skill level, which are participatory/interactive and use variety of media/tools

  • Follows guide to ensure consistency; may include assisting with checklists and logistical needs including required record keeping/evaluation data

  • Adheres to the established design of a program and collaborates with peers to discuss execution and consistency; incorporates feedback that improves practice

  • Reviews learning design for effectiveness; updates as per design best practices and current roles, systems and workflow of business/target roles

  • Accountable for basic design with guidance

  • As applicable, leads and manages a team of professionals during a critical phase of development (e.g. onboarding) in a dynamic and fast paced environment

  • Performs customer needs analysis


  • Must be able to work rotational shifts-day and or night shifts including weekends as needed. Flexibility between 8 a.m.- 9 p.m.PST

  • Associate or college degree strongly preferred

  • 2 years experience in Personal Lines Operations, (AARP & Agency), or Learning organization experience preferred

  • Solid facilitation skills using current practices/tools with proven ability to engage learners

  • Exposure to Collaboration Tools (e.g. Lync, Adobe Connect)

  • Solid working knowledge of aligned business group

  • Basics of adult learning and learning design

  • Must be customer focused in exceeding client expectations

  • Business and organizational knowledge
