Our US Advisory Services team is seeking a dynamic Principal Consultant I to both support and drive continued growth in our Asset Management and Business Advisory practice. You will join an established team that is a leader in providing management consulting, finance, and business improvement services across the country and potentially beyond.

We are looking for an experienced self-starter who can help drive our Business Advisory service area which focuses on organizational development, business process analysis, strategic planning and performance management and support our thriving Asset Management service area.

The individual will preferably have extensive experience in the transportation verticals highways (preferable), rail and transit and/or airports with an extended network from which to lead business development activities.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide national leadership in developing our business advisory practice

  • Develop opportunities for new business in performance management, organizational development, business process analysis and strategic planning

  • Lead and deliver complex, multidisciplinary consulting projects across sectors with a particular focus on the transportation vertical

  • Support existing asset management assignments in the transportation sector

  • Support the Business Line Director and Business Advisory Service Area Manager in establishing WSP as a premier brand across the USA

  • Support the professional growth of our junior consultants within the AMBA practice area

The asset management team works nationally and the candidate should be available to travel. The preferred home location for this posting is in the Washington D.C. area.

Job Requirements

Required Attribute

  • Proven experience in consulting or a comparable role in developing organizational capability and performance improvement from within an organization

  • Hands-on leader, collaborator and strong team player

  • Self-starter, who can get things done efficiently

  • Preferably a good understanding of asset management and the challenges organizations face with introducing business change to improve management practices

  • Broad knowledge of business models and processes of transportation sector organizations

  • Familiarity with national and international practices and standards

  • A strong desire to coach and support more junior consultants

  • Exceptional ease in concurrently relating to and managing corporate executives, line consultants, and client executives

  • Ability to bridge technical, management, financial and policy perspectives


  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, with graduate degree preferred

  • 15 to 20+ years’ experience in directly relevant endeavors

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Active engagement in relevant industry organizations

  • Strong interpersonal skills and high emotional IQ

The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately.
