Overview/Job Specific Marketing Statement


HNTB is a leading provider of planning, design and program management services for Aviation development programs nationwide. We have identified the New York Aviation market sector as an essential part to grow the New York Office. HNTB has been a major player in the aviation industry for over 60 years, and in order to strengthen our presence in the NY Aviation sector we are seeking a Project Director/Project Manager; Client Service Leader who possesses excellent client relationships with our clientele in the Metropolitan New York/New Jersey area. This person will run our Client Service Team (CST), Project Champion identified pursuits, take ownership of pursuits/projects and be accountable.


Job Summary


Responsible for the effective and profitable management and delivery of end-to-end PMC services on a program with a program value of <$1B. Incumbents would typically be at the AVP or VP Officer level.


Essential Responsibility


  • Acts as the client’s agent in delivering PMC services in the areas of strategic planning, alternative delivery, innovative financing, procurement/contract management, risk management, project controls, quality management, construction management, project closeout and acceptance, and operations/maintenance.


  • Routinely resolves difficult issues of significant financial impact, assessing and managing risk on behalf of the client.


  • Identifies and effectively pursues opportunities to advance HNTB’s presence and revenue opportunity, both with current client(s) and more broadly within the PMC market.


  • Actively works to build a reputation in the industry and within Program Management, maintaining positive relationships with clients and representing HNTB with local, state and national industry organizations.


  • Interacts with senior government or public officials and/or clients on significant program matters often requiring coordination between organizations.


  • Responsible for defining staffing needs for the delivery of services, providing direction and oversight to Project Managers, other staff, client staff and subcontractors.


  • Has an awareness and understanding of the political environment and sensitivities in which a program is being delivered.


  • Able to lead HNTB team in understanding client perspectives and vision of success while keeping staff connected to firm culture and organization.


  • Develops a deep understanding of full range of HNTB services and firm-wide resources.


  • Participates in the development of client service action plans and client project reviews.


  • Carries out other duties as assigned.

Preferred Responsibility


The New York Aviation Deputy Client Service Leader will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of the offices’s strategies for profitable growth within the aviation market sector in the New York metroolitan area.


  • Develops, grow, and nurtures key client relationships and is the primary company contact on the project.


  • Has full managerial responsibility for all aspects of the project including negotiating extras, cost control, staffing, quality control and cash management.


  • Estimates fees, determines scope of work, and prepares proposals and contracts on large or multiple projects.


  • Actively manages client’s budget, schedule and program; HNTB budget and schedule; project communications, documentation, and administers relevant aspects of a formal quality control program.


  • Satisfies client requirements.


  • Coordinates work efforts and reviews work performed.


  • Responsible for managing and delivering quality mega projects on-time, within budget and to the satisfaction of the client.


  • Identifies and markets additional business opportunities with key clients.

Basic Qualification


Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline


8 years relevant experience


Preferred Qualification/Skills


  • Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree preferred plus 15 years related experience in the design, management, planning and implementation of large scale avaition projects.


  • New York State and/or New Jersey Architecture or Professional Engineer License (or capable of obtaining the other state within 3 to 6 months).


  • Experience managing successful, large projects is required with airport experience.


  • Strong relationships within the industry, and a network of owners and consultants.


  • Experience with Large Capital Programs, such as terminal and runway project experience.


  • Senior Level Practice Builder and Service Delivery Experience required.


  • Strategic thinker, with demonstrated collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment and gain the support of others. Ability to work in a matrix organization focusing on mega-win projects.


  • Able to take ownership and be accountable for projects and personnel.

Office Environment: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently, and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.
