In addition, this group provides an enterprise-wide view of risk, assists management and our Board of Directors in identifying and monitoring risks that may affect multiple lines of business, and takes appropriate action when business activities exceed the risk tolerance of the company.


This Operational Risk Consultant 4 (ORC 4) position is within Wholesale Testing & Validation (T&V), specifically on the Banking & Lending Team. The Wholesale T&V Team is part of the Wholesale Group Risk Organization (WGRO) and performs testing and issue validation to assess compliance with numerous regulatory and policy requirements applicable to the products and services offered by the following lines of business: Corporate Banking, Government & Institutional Banking, Commercial Real Estate, Wholesale Loan Services, Wholesale Workout, Business Banking Group, Middle Market Banking, International Trade Services, and International Trade Operations.


The Operational Risk Consultant 4 will lead and assist with the development and execution of testing to assess the design and effectiveness of process controls that have been implemented within the lines of business to help ensure compliance with regulatory and policy requirements.


ORC 4 responsibilities may include:


  • Directing and leading team members throughout multiple concurrent reviews.


  • Planning, scoping, executing, and reporting on regulatory and policy requirement testing and validation reviews.


  • Conducting interviews within the lines of business to develop a strong understanding of relevant processes and controls that mitigate risk of regulatory and policy non-compliance.


  • Documenting process walk-throughs that clearly and concisely explain the key process steps and how they are performed.


  • Completing timely and efficient tests to support conclusions on the design and performance of controls and overall effectiveness of the control environment to ensure regulatory and policy compliance.


  • Documenting test steps and results in a clear and concise manner that supports the work completed and can be easily understood by an independent person.


  • Reviewing testing documentation and results completed by team members on reviews and providing feedback to ensure work papers are fully supported.


  • Communicating testing results to management, at the appropriate time and with the necessary level of detail, to ensure no surprises.


  • Creating recommendations for improvement of processes and/or controls to remediate deficiencies and working with LOB stakeholders and internal risk partners to ensure appropriate corrective actions are defined to resolve weaknesses.


  • Ensuring alignment of controls, procedures, and testing to compliance requirements, policies, and practices.


  • Leading and assisting the development and execution of testing for complex regulations and processes


  • Communicating and working with various levels of team members within Wholesale T&V, management within the lines of business, and other stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:


  • 6+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both; or 6+ years of IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience, of which 3+ years must include direct experience in compliance, operational risk management, or a combination of both

  • Experience with Wells Fargo risk systems such as Shared Risk Platform (SHRP), Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA), or Control Risk Analysis System (CRAS+)


  • Experience reviewing testing strategies and methodologies; evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes, initiatives, products and internal controls; and identifying issues resulting from internal and/or external compliance examinations


  • Ability to identify gaps through risk based testing


  • Ability to interact with integrity and a high level of professionalism with all levels of team members and management


  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and across all organizational levels, where flexibility, collaboration, and adaptability are important


  • Ability to work and influence successfully within a matrix environment and build effective business partnerships with all levels of team members


  • Ability to work effectively, as well as independently, in a team environment


  • Leadership experience with ability to effectively manage and engage teams
