This position is part of the Enterprise Finance Risk Management team and will play a significant role in managing operational and regulatory risks for Norwest Equity Partners (NEP) and Norwest Venture Partners (NVP), both reporting to John Shrewsberry, Wells Fargo CFO.


Norwest Equity Partners is a leading private equity investment firm founded in 1961, located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The business objective is to generate significant capital appreciation by investing equity or providing mezzanine debt financing for profitable, well managed businesses.


Norwest Venture Partners is a venture capital investment firm founded in 1961, located in Palo Alto, California. The business objective is to generate significant capital appreciation by investing equity in venture and growth equity investments. Investments cover the US, India and Israel.


This role will act as the one point of contact and be responsible for providing direction, maintenance, support and oversight of the Venture team’s risks and requirements within regulatory and operational risk systems, processes and policies. Additionally, the qualified candidate will be responsible for risk analysis reporting utilizing data from the Regulatory and Operational Risk Reporting tools. This leader will need to have the stature to credibly challenge business and risk functional heads, lead initiatives across cross business virtual teams, and .


This leader will need to partner and collaborate with: Corporate Staff Group Risk Programs, Venture team risk and business leaders, Wells Fargo Legal and Audit teams, and various other risk leaders and policy owners. They will need to have good partnership and collaboration skills as most of their work will be done through virtual teams and partners across Wells Fargo.


The preferred candidate possesses a knowledge base and enterprise-level operational risk experience to be able to interact with Operational Risk Leaders and Regulatory compliance leaders to critically evaluate proposals, exercise credible challenge when appropriate, and facilitate suitable solutions. Moreover, the candidate will have the ability to visualize beyond immediate legal and risk concerns, and possess an ability to identify future and/or potential risk events associated with the practices.


  • Key Responsibilities*


  • Provides management support in the areas of metrics, reporting, and advanced and predictive analytics.


  • Identify business challenges and use data analysis to help influence changes to the operations, process or programs.


  • Utilizes technology and analytical tools to develop and analyze enterprise-wide data.


  • Communicates findings to senior management via formal presentations, standard management reporting artifacts on a regular basis.


  • Collaborates with subject matter experts across the Organization to promote data governance and stewardship, and to improve overall strategic and operational performance and insight.


  • Develop and assist in implementing appropriate risk assessment strategies.


  • Works with compliance, operational risk, and business management to identify, formulate and implement policies and procedures.


  • Manages the development, implementation and monitoring of a risk-based program to identify, assess and mitigate operational risk that arises from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems or external events.


  • Works with business line management to resolve issues and address deficiencies to mitigate risk.


  • Regularly influences and negotiates with all levels of management as well as high level stakeholders.

The Candidate


This leader will have a track record of success in building and managing industry-leading risk review programs in the financial services industry. This leader will have substantial experience leading "best-in-class" risk management functions, and a thorough knowledge of highly disciplined business, financial and risk management processes as well as investment knowledge. Leadership, relationship management, and credibility will be determining factors in selection. Successful candidates will be articulate and possess a demonstrated leadership capability; they will have strong interpersonal effectiveness.

Required Qualifications:


  • 12+ years of experience in compliance, operational risk management (includes audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, or the management of a process or business with accountability for compliance or operational risk), or a combination of both; or 12+ years of IT systems security, business process management or financial services industry experience, of which 6+ years must include direct experience in compliance, operational risk management, or a combination of both

  • A Master's degree or higher


  • 5+ years of analytical experience

  • Virtual leadership experience with ability to effectively drive results, provide feedback/direction, and manage and build relationships with leaders and team members in a geographically dispersed team environment


  • Ability to work across multiple lines of business leading large scale initiatives


  • Risk management and mitigation experience
