Position DescriptionPrincipal Engineer, R&D


As a Principal Engineer, R&D you will be responsible for developing and implementing new products through adherence to established design control processes and good engineering and documentation practices.


You will work specifically with our Consumables Development Team on our extensive product portfolio of respiratory system solutions which empowers our customers to provide the highest-quality patient therapy and helps address cross-contamination concerns.


With your excellent communication and project management skills, you are able to plan, specify and control a complete project to formulate and implement research and development programs, policies, and procedures required to support profitable growth.


In particular you can expect to:


  • Design, development and commercialization of disposable medical devices.


  • Manage small-medium scale projects individually or participate in a large scale development project as part of a cross functional engineering team.


  • Concept development and technical feasibility of early stage development projects or problem resolution on an existing product.


  • Complete development through design verification and validation testing.


  • Oversee design transfer and work with manufacturing engineering on injection mold design, process layout and automation.


  • Create design history files for new products, perform gap analysis on existing design history files, and propose solutions to fill gaps.


  • Typical duties will include plastic part design, assembly design, and problem resolution on concepts or existing products.

To be successful, you will need:


  • 3+ years’ experience in product design.


  • Ability to train and coach others from technical expertise.


  • Advanced knowledge of engineering principles in solving moderately complex technical problems.


  • Advanced knowledge of product design and development.


  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of best in class (i.e., phase gate) process to take product from concept to commercialization.


  • Independently test, analyze and solve technical problems.


  • Apply advanced statistical techniques and utilize design of experiments.


  • Establish product requirements based on customer needs; verify design output meets design input.


  • Work independently to create design of multiple components, systems or devices.


  • Drive the intellectual property strategy for a single product.

Education:


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering - Plastics, Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering. MS Preferred.


  • Certificates/Training in 3-D Modeling, FEA, CFD, Six-Sigma, and/or plastic part design are all plusses.

Some Logistics:


  • Location:The current office is based in Yorba Linda however, we will be moving to the Irvine area. Once property is identified in Irvine, this position will relocate to the new space based in the Irvine area.
