The Medical Group Financial Analytics Manager is a strategic lead role in the Financial Business Services department that works in partnership with all levels of Sutter Valley Operating Unit Executive and Operations leadership and medical group leadership teams. The incumbent provides strategic financial and operational consultation to Sutter Valley Operating Unit and Sutter Health Affiliates on issues impacting the Professional Services Agreements (PSA), Medical Group financials, Medical Group compensation, information systems, and business plan development. The incumbent takes a leadership role in business and financial analytics, including evaluating Medical Group Financial Statements and Budget, PSA's, modeling physician compensation, developing quality assurance evaluations and validating current business processes. This position is also responsible for the development of analyses, financial modeling, projections, and ad hoc reporting to support the Medical Groups. The position is responsible for the monthly Medical Group financial performance review, presenting analysis, report development, maintenance on internal financial software/databases, providing consultation and making recommendations on high-profile business decisions. The position manages 3 for-profit medical groups (Sutter Medical Group (SMG), and Sutter North Medical Group (SNMG) and Sutter Gould Medical Group (SGMG) financial operations including a) analyzing PSA financial obligations to medical groups; b) reporting monthly and annual financial statements; c) preparation of annual SMG operating budget; d) accounts payable; e) administers SMG discretionary reimbursement program; f) acts as liaison to the external financial auditors; g) annual tax planning facilitation including cash forecasting; h) group and SMF financial policy and procedure oversight; i) manages the receipt and classification of all professional revenue; j) participates in the SMF annual preparation. Responsible for developing, reviewing, and implementing year-end cash projection model for income tax planning. Leads Medical Group policy and procedure development for improved efficiency and accuracy. Coordinates the Medical Groups' annual budgets. This position has the authority to independently carry out the duties of the position as described in the attached principal accountabilities. This position acts in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision or direction. This position must be able to evaluate future business changes and then model the financial and business impacts on the environment changes. The position will also manage staff and is responsible for quality reviews of deliverables, professional development, productivity and adherence to company policies and procedures. The Medical Group Financial Analytics Manager acts under the direction of Director of Decision Support.



The position requires a bachelor degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Management Information Systems, or Healthcare Administration related fields. A master degree in any of the above areas is strongly preferred, as well as, professional certifications including CFA or CPA.


6-9 years experience: Requires extensive knowledge of complex healthcare finance, PSA analytics, business planning, analysis, modeling, research methodologies and techniques, information system modules / functions, integrated delivery systems, payer practices, medical billing processes, data management, retrieval, and report-writing application.


The incumbent must have solid decision making skills as well as exhibit a high degree of professionalism and analytical capability. This position requires strong leadership skills to make an appropriate contribution and give direction to issues, work groups, and task forces. The incumbent must be able to resolve demanding business issues related to the Financials, PSA and Medical Group Compensation analytical issues. He or she must be familiar with medical coding terminology and practices. The manager must have proven skills in employee counseling and development and a strong teambuilding orientation, a demonstrated background in excellent written/verbal communication skills with all levels of management and professional staff, and the ability to develop and foster relationships. The incumbent must be able to act independently and proactively to develop and execute Financial Analysis. He or she must be able to process a large amount of information in a short period of time and have the confidence to act upon informed decisions. The incumbent must also have the ability to work with external consultants and organizations.
