How will you make an impact?


The Portfolio & Program Management Sr. Manager for Reproductive Health is responsible for leading a team of Program Managers focused on the Reproductive Health vertical within the Genetic Sciences Division (GSD) of Thermo Fisher Scientific. This role is responsible for Reproductive Health portfolio management and reports into the GSD Portfolio Leader while acting as the primary point of contact and portfolio support for the Reproductive Health General Manager, Product Management Leader and R&D Leader. The Reproductive Health program management team leads new product introduction programs as well as key sustaining efforts. This role requires significant cross-group coordination, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to drive collaborative discussions and decisions with all key stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have strong program and portfolio management skills, a history of strong team leadership and development, be interested in and able to understand business strategy and technology, and be comfortable interacting with senior executives and peers alike. We need a passionate leader who will deliver execution excellence, making optimal use of the Thermo Fisher phase-gate process. What will you do?


A Portfolio & Program Manager’s role at Thermo Fisher:


  • Leads and develops a team of Program Managers to deliver on commitments and continuously raise the bar.


  • Executes the Portfolio Management Process governing all product types for the Platforms & Content Businesses.


  • Manages the product commercialization process/new product development and introduction through the phase-gate process, managing scope, schedule, risks, issues, trade-offs, communications, and expectations.


  • Represents the organization in assuring the teams follow product development best practices, and in some cases adhere to specific regulatory requirements, as they lead project teams through the product commercialization process. This includes assuring design control and thereby long-term product supportability, as well as delivering the agreed upon business value.


  • Drives adoption of project management best practices, with the goal of not only delivering a product of high quality and value to the organization, but delivering within the agreed upon project contract metrics of schedule, budget and scope.

Responsibilities:


  • Lead a focused team of ≈2-3 Program Managers with the primary responsibility to execute new product development programs from opportunity identification and investigation through product launch & program closure.


  • Provide team with appropriate level of professional skills training at least twice a year.


  • Serve as the main point of engagement from the GSD PMO into the Reproductive Health vertical, serving the portfolio needs of the Reproductive Health GM, Product Management Leader, and R&D Leader.


  • Own and optimize all portfolio operating mechanisms for the Reproductive Health, including quarterly portfolio reviews, PAC reviews, NPI reviews and others as needed


  • Support the business leadership in the annual strategy and planning mechanisms, particularly in the areas of program prioritization and the generation of program roadmaps.


  • Fully staff team of Program Managers and ensure all key Reproductive Health programs have an appropriate level of program management support.


  • Act in the capacity of Program Manager for at least one program within the portfolio.


  • Drive core GSD PMO operating mechanisms to provide critical information and deliver necessary decisions.


  • Assist Reproductive Health Program Core Teams in resolving resource and priority issues.


  • Collaborate and coordinate across all the functional areas (R&D, Marketing, Product Management, QA/QC, Regulatory, Legal, Operations, Manufacturing, Service and Support and others) necessary to ensure successful program completion and product launches across the Reproductive Health portfolio.


  • Deliver performance evaluations twice per year to Reproductive Health Portfolio Team Members.


  • Develop and deliver original persuasive presentations.


  • Serve as an integral member of the Reproductive Health leadership team, developing productive partnerships with key members including R&D, Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and Service & Support.


  • Assist teams in tracking and monitoring progress against Product requirements and program plans; assist in resolution of deviations.


  • Other duties as assigned.

How will you get here?


Education/Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline.


  • Minimum 9 years of product development experience in Life Sciences, Biotechnology or Medical Devices; IVD experience highly preferred


  • Minimum 5 years of program management experience.


  • Minimum 2 years of people management experience.


  • Portfolio management experience preferred.


  • Phase-gate product development process experience.


  • VOC process experience preferred.


  • PMP certification preferred.
