Role Summary:


Join our BioPharma R&D Team as Packaging Engineer to plan, organize, coordinate and complete packaging engineering and labeling activities to support new product development, existing products & manufacturing, cost improvements, ISTA testing, and labeling to support industry requirements, and investigation and implementation of new packaging concepts and materials. Work directly with a senior packaging subject matter expert to learn our products and packaging.


Essential Responsibilities:


• Development of packaging designs, methods and processes for efficient transport & delivery of our products


• Coordination of labeling


• Write/revise and release of packaging product and process documentation including work instructions and specifications for packing/unpacking, crating/uncrating, labeling, etc.


• Creation of all relevant test protocols, technical reports and first article inspections.


• Operate ISTA test equipment (shake, vibration, compression, atmospheric conditioning) for packaging


• Evaluation and recommendation of new materials


• Perform training on new and revised packaging work instructions as well as reviewing packaging instructions.


• Create SolidWorks drawings and CAD models


• Interface with packaging suppliers.


• Interface with contract manufacture organizations and provide packaging design assistance to GEHC inbound suppliers.


• Support customer complaint investigations, root cause investigations, and implementation of solutions


• Interface with manufacturing to resolve packaging issues


• Interface with the customer regulatory group on customer related packaging questions


• Support packaging engineering team in meeting business objectives and goals.


• Maintain and develop competence required for the job


Qualifications/Requirements:


• General understanding of packaging materials and methods


• Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate technical problems in clear and simple terms


• Experience in packaging lab or working lab environment


• Strong Initiative and ability to work independently and in teams


• Prior experience in packaging engineering field and/or interest to learn


• BS Degree in Packaging Engineering/Sciences, Mechanical Engineering or related degree


• Basic knowledge of Solidworks CAD software


• Strong written and verbal communication skills


Desired Characteristics:


• Experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industries preferred.


• Working knowledge of package test methods, process validation, bar coding and international standards


• Broad knowledge of properties for materials utilized in primary and secondary packaging, plus packaging methods and equipment


• Familiarity with shock & vibration testing to ISTA & ASTM standards


• Demonstrated analytic approach to problem solving


• Proven adaptable to difficult situations


• Demonstrated leadership skills and community involvement


• Proficient with 3D modeling software (e.g. SolidWorks, Creo)
