SUMMARY
The Controller is responsible for supporting the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in ensuring the effective operation of the accounting and financial reporting functions by performing or supervising various accounting duties. Those duties include but are not limited to the daily Accounting Department operations and providing operations and financial related reporting to senior leadership and the Board of Directors. The Controller is responsible for development and performance management of the team. The Controller also assists the CFO in various projects, internal and external audits, and trouble shoots department related issues. Performance of the duties requires excellent organization, management, analytical, communication and reporting skills
The salary for this role will be between $108,202 and $162,303 a year. The specific salary offered will depend on several factors including but not limited to applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience. Hired candidate may be eligible for healthcare benefits, 401K plan, short term & long-term disability coverage, life insurance, vacation & sick time, educational assistance, and several holidays. Essential Duties
Directly supervises one employee, and 8-10 employees indirectly. Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems while maintaining a positive work environment.
Education And Experience
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; and five to seven years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
CPA or CMA certification is a requirement.
Skills
This position requires a thorough knowledge of accounting theory, practice, and regulatory requirements. The position requires the basic skills associated with the general use of computers and other business office equipment. Ability to format spreadsheets (e.g. sorting, pivot tables) and develop formulas (e.g. v-lookup, “if” statements) in Excel and intermediate level skills in Word are required. Database query experience preferred. Ten-key by touch is required. The ability to offer flexibility in a changing work environment is imperative. Position requires the ability to work successfully with other team members to maximize productivity. The ability to offer flexibility in a changing work environment is imperative.

Essential Duties
- Oversee and execute daily operations and functions of the Accounting Department to include accounts payable and funds management, ensuring effective and efficient use of time and resources.
- Maintain the general ledger and reconciliation for all G/L control accounts and bank accounts.
- Prepare financial reports and regulatory reports required by various regulators and government agencies.
- Prepare financial and management reports for internal use.
- Oversees accounts payable, prepaid expenses and fixed asset accounting
- Responsible for Securities and exchange Commission filings and assists with investor reporting.
- Perform complex financial analysis and report findings to management
- Assist with independent audits and regulatory examinations.
- Compare income vs. expense for significant variances prior to month-end closing; adjusts accordingly and proceeds with closing process.
- Ensure accounting and reporting internal controls are designed and operating effectively including maintaining appropriate documentation.
- Advise on improvement of process leveraging technology solutions
- Assist CFO with various projects as assigned.
- Participates in the selection and application of appropriate accounting policies in accordance with GAAP.
- Develop, document and communicate accounting policies.
- Standardize procedures to improve efficiency of team members.
- Participates in and completes training objectives with passing scores.
- Facilitates training objectives, including time allotment and coordination of electives.
- Responsible to monitor and assess staff training regularly and in a timely manner.
- Follow all Riverview policies and procedures.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Daily contact with supervisor and other senior management.
- Daily contact with other managers and staff as information source, team member, collaborator, etc.
- Viewing other staff as customers of accounting services.
- Daily contact with accounting staff as coach, leader, and information source providing support, direction, and task priorities.
- Contact with regulators and auditors as an information source and liaison.
- Occasional contact with outside customers as information source and troubleshooter.
- Periodic contact with vendors as a business consumer.
