Registered Dietitian for the Bariatrics Program

The Registered Dietitian for the Bariatrics Program at Montefiore provides in person and virtual nutrition services for patients enrolled in the MMC Bariatric surgery program. This role provides nutrition assessment, care planning and education for individual patients/ families as well as provides services suitable to the patients' health needs, culture and lifestyle in order to ensure comprehensive health care maintenance.

Responsibilities include:

• Monitors and re-enforces dietary teaching, modifies the care plan and restructures diet based on laboratory values, clinical data, nutrition focused physical exams, and the total medical condition.
• Develops, implements, and modifies bilingual educational classes and materials pertinent to Bariatric Surgery population.
• Actively participates in the interdisciplinary patient care process, providing recommendations and education based on nutrition expertise.
• Remains abreast of current research in areas of expertise through networking and continuing education. Serves as a resource of nutrition expertise to other members of the Bariatric team as well as referring physicians and/or healthcare providers in the MMC network and community.
• Facilitates Seminars and Support Group meetings (Spanish and English).
• Participates in Bariatric Surgery Performance Improvement pertaining to nutrition care in accordance with the goals of Performance Improvement at MMC.

Education/Skills required:

• Baccalaureate degree in Nutrition or related field from an accredited college, completion of qualifying experience mandatory; Master’s degree preferred.
• Registered Dietitian (R.D.) or Registration Eligible (RDE) status with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND). Registration Eligible (RDE) status acceptable, conditional on taking and passing of the next scheduled Registration Examination for Dietitians (6 months). Maintenance of continuing education requirements as decreed by AND.
• NYS Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist credential required.
• Bilingual English/ Spanish candidate preferred.
• CDCES certification strongly preferred /or must obtain CDCES within 2 years of employment in this position.
