We are currently seeking a Behavioral Health Specialist to join our team as the Attendance Case Manager for Fairfield County. In this position you will be working along side the Fairfield County Educational Services Center, providing case management services for families who are struggling with school attendance. This position will be school based and community based to meet the needs of the students and families.

The Behavioral Health Specialist (BHS) will develop a service relationship with each client to help them develop insight into themselves and their relationships. The BHS provides cognitive-behavioral therapy to assist individuals struggling with a range of issues related to their emotional and behavioral health, such as relationship and family issues, substance use and addiction, difficulty coping with stress, and grief and loss issues.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develops and maintains a service relationship with client, family, and caregivers to provide them support as appropriate.
- Reviews Diagnostic Evaluation and additional assessments, to aid in the ongoing development and implementation of a client’s individualized treatment plan (ITP).
- May provide Ohio Department of Medicaid behavioral health and addiction services within scope of practice.
- Assess clients for high risk behavior.
- Teaches clients social, coping, and conflict resolution skills.
- Provides first-line crisis intervention and mediation as necessary.
- Meets and sustains the OhioGuidestone designated productivity standard.
- Serve as a liaison to coordinate, makes referrals, or arrange for appropriate community resources when needed, acts as an advocate for the client as needed.
- Performs related administrative responsibilities; maintains client information, reports, records, and other documents; responds timely to emails and phone calls; attends and participates in various trainings and meetings; communicates with other agencies, departments, and vendors regarding required paperwork, contract compliance and consults with other county agencies and/or supportive services as necessary.
- Accurately and promptly, documents and maintains the confidentiality of client and family interactions including, legal, financial, and clinical documentation within agency guidelines.
- Maintains ongoing frequent contact with other assigned OhioGuidestone professionals, parents or outside agency professionals assigned to case.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
- When working with Caregiver and youth:
- Assists families to build skills in the following areas child development, empathy, age appropriate discipline-limit setting, behavior management/modification/encouragement, household management, understanding and handling stress and anger, personal power, communication and positive relationships.
- Assists with enhancing positive family functioning to ensure children are raised in a warm and trusting environment.
- When working with youth:
- Provides school personnel and Caregivers with education and support on mental health, discipline, behavior management, household management, communication and relationship enhancement.
- Informs appropriate school personnel of clients being served maintaining confidentiality.
- Ensures that clients are in the proper educational setting.
- Consults with school personnel and participate in team meetings, as necessary.
- Educates school personnel on various mental health conditions/diagnoses and assist with effective classroom intervention/strategies.
- Exhibits positivity, flexibility and a willingness to take on new responsibilities as requested or required.
- This position is a grant funded position. If the grant funded is not renewed the following year, the candidate will be able to keep employment with OhioGuidestone.
- Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
- Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of emotional and mental dysfunctions.
- Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, human migrations, ethnicity, and cultures and their history and origins.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Computer literacy skills, including Windows applications, Microsoft Office Suite, and basic database usage, as well as basic typing.
- Organizational skills, team player and attention to detail.
- Ability to transport clients as needed.
- Work consist of walking, bending, stooping, ascending/descending stairs, and remaining in a stationary position 50% of the time, including positioning self to an equal level in order to assist clients of all ages.
- Work environment is based in the community and can include an agency office, school-based setting, child care facilities, or participant’s homes.
- Must be able to drive frequently due to work varying work environments including agency office, school based, community based locations which may include participant homes in various communities.
- Works flexible hours, which can include days, evenings, and weekends, as desired to meet the needs of clients and the OhioGuidestone and is available for crisis management by phone as needed.
- Interacts verbally with coworkers, representatives from outside agencies, and families.
- Must have a high school diploma with 3 years of mental health or related experience*, an Associate’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field with 1 year of mental health or related experience*. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience could include, but is not limited to, one or more of the following:
- Service/treatment planning, care coordination, and/or referral and linkage for healthcare, behavioral healthcare, or non-healthcare services
- Intervention using evidence-based techniques
- Identification of strategies or treatment options
- Restoration of social skills and daily functioning
- Crisis prevention and amelioration
- Establishment of trust and rapport, active listening, empathy and goal-setting
- Social, spiritual, educational, and/or other supportive, relational activities
- Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License with a safe driving record and valid insurance.
- Ability to take and pass a physical exam and drug screening.
