Senior Collector

Role

To preserve the credit union's assets by controlling delinquent loan, credit card and share losses by placing phone calls with the purpose of collecting delinquent loan payments, performing skip tracing tasks, manage legal accounts via small claims efforts, oversee bankruptcy queues/accounts and/or performing the required collateral recovery activities. Perform oversight of asset investigations, preparations of payment plans and the collection of fines and fees levied by the courts. Interacts with members by supervising the initiation of enforcement actions; assigns collections accounts to third party agencies and evaluates collection and negative share accounts; and performs related tasks within area of assignment.

Major Duties And Responsibilities

• Contacts the more complex and difficult delinquent accounts that includes, indirect/direct consumer and real estate loans and takes appropriate action to bring current. Collecting negative share accounts is another important responsibility.
• Retrieves and monitors all repossessed collateral ensuring maximum return from sale or auctions.
• Analyzes financial situation of delinquent borrowers; makes recommendations to repossess collateral when other arrangements to bring the loan current are unsuccessful.
• Informs management of trends in loan underwriting contributing to delinquent/charged-off loans.
• Maintains accurate files and reports on all collections activity.
• Performs other duties as may be deemed necessary for the effective and efficient function of the Department or Credit Union.
  
  

Experience

Knowledge and Skills

• Five (5) years of collection and credit experience
• Two (2) years automotive repossession recovery and vendor management experience required.
• A requirement of (5) years financial services experience is required. A typical background for obtaining the requisite knowledge, abilities and experience is two years of similar or related experience along with the required education.
• Credit Union experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Repossession and collateral disposition processes required.
• A basic knowledge of asset seizures, lien sales and impound notices is required.

• A high school education or GED.

• A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary.
