Residential Counselor - Interim Housing

SUMMARY:
The Residential Counselor will be primarily responsible for assisting with prevention services in both group and individual settings. This role includes co-facilitating prevention and substance abuse groups and conducting individual risk assessments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides intake and assessment services.
- Assists with drug prevention services including individual, group, and community activities.
- Serves as an appropriate role model for youth.
- Advocates for youth and accesses community resources to meet their needs.
- Maintains statistical data and completes reports as appropriate, entering all client data into AWARDS and HMIS systems.
- Attends agency and program meetings, participating in Program Quality Improvement activities.
- Participates in agency Safety initiatives and reports safety issues to management immediately.
- Completes program and financial documentation according to agency standards.
- Ensures cleanliness and tidiness of working areas and reports maintenance issues to management.
- Regular attendance is required.
- Performs other assigned duties.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to carry out all essential duties and responsibilities satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities. Some positions require awake/overnight shifts to ensure 24-hour coverage.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent. Experience working with homeless and culturally diverse youth is required, along with knowledge of the needs of runaway, homeless, and street youth. Availability in the evenings and weekends is necessary.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals, write routine reports, and speak effectively before groups.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Driving is a requirement (valid California driver's license and personal vehicle for company business). Fingerprinting/background check as required by the Department of Justice and/or Title XXII regulations. TB test required. Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (or agree to receive the booster when eligible).
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts as required for reporting.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables with limited standardization.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Knowledge of Internet software, spreadsheet software, and word processing software is required. Internet research skills are a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Regularly required to sit, stand, use hands, reach, and talk or hear. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment is usually moderate in noise level.
