Chief Estimator

Thermal Concepts is looking to add a Chief Estimator to its Installation team!

The Chief Estimator is responsible for leading and managing the estimation process for construction projects, including preparing and overseeing detailed cost estimates, coordinating with project teams, and ensuring accuracy and competitiveness in bid proposals. This role involves providing strategic input, managing estimation staff, and ensuring estimates aligning project specifications and budgetary constraints.

Essential Duties, Roles & Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage the estimation department, including mentoring and training estimation staff.
• Develop and implement estimation strategies and best practices to improve accuracy and efficiency.
• Prepare comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead.
• Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and scopes to determine cost implications and identify potential risks.
• Lead the preparation of bid proposals, ensuring that all aspects of the project are covered and that bids are competitive and aligned with company objectives.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to obtain accurate pricing and information for inclusion in bids.
• Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and other team members to understand project requirements and address any estimation-related issues.
• Participate in project meetings and provide input on cost implications and budgeting.
• Analyze historical data and market trends to inform estimation practices and ensure competitive bidding.
• Prepare detailed reports and presentations on estimates, including explanations of cost components and assumptions.
• Identify and assess potential risks related to cost estimation and project execution.
• Develop strategies to mitigate risks and ensure accurate cost forecasting.
• Ensure that all estimates and bids comply with relevant regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
  
  

Skills & Abilities

• Strong knowledge of construction processes, materials, and cost estimation methods, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Extensive experience in HVAC and mechanical field installation (10+ years preferred).
• Minimum of years of experience in construction estimation, with at least 3 years in a senior or managerial role.
• Proven track record of successful project estimates and bids in [specific industry or type of projects, e.g., commercial, residential, industrial]

• Expertise in cost estimation software and tools (TRIMBLE AutoBid, EXCEL).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
