Job Duties:
A $4,000 hiring bonus is being offered for this position. Hiring bonuses shall only be for new hires of original employment or reemployment as defined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0.
- $1,000 will be awarded in the first paycheck.
- $1,250 will be awarded upon completion of the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
- $1,750 will be awarded upon completion of the employee’s one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.
- The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire BH Case Management Clinicians who are compassionate and want to make a difference in the lives of others for the Behavioral Health Case Management Program. The program provides lower-level case management services to citizens with serious mental illness, substance abuse disorder, or co-occurring disorders. Services are provided on a short-term basis (3-6 months) to clients with minimal needs who require a lower level of care.
The ideal candidate will have experience providing direct services to adults with serious mental health and/or substance use issues, utilizing community resources in Hampton Roads-Region V, providing Medicaid reimbursable services, completing assessments, referrals, treatment plans, risk assessments, and determining appropriate clinical levels of care. Must be registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a QMHP-A.
Responsibilities:
- Provide clients with enhanced care coordination focusing on both behavioral and primary health in a mental health or substance abuse setting.
- Complete complex assessments, treatment planning, and crisis planning.
- Provide clinical intervention, consultation, supportive counseling, transition planning, and other case management duties.
- Support hospitalized clients with discharge planning; link with hospital staff and natural supports as appropriate, and obtain medical records for timely follow-up and quality coordination.
- File medical documentation and submit billing information accurately and within required time frames.
- Complete and finalize progress notes in Electronic Health Record (EHR) in a timely manner.
- Provide leadership and training to team members as needed.

Minimum Requirements: Requires a four (4) year degree in a human services field and three (3) years’ experience in relevant fields or any combination of education and experience equivalent to seven (7) years in relevant fields. Must have or obtain a current and valid driver’s license.
Special Requirements: Must be registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a QMHP-A. All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences: Experience providing direct services to adults with serious mental health and/or substance use issues; experience completing assessments, referrals, and treatment plans for adults with serious issues; two (2) or more years experience providing Medicaid reimbursable case management services.

VRS Contribution: All full-time employees are required to contribute 5% of annual salary toward their retirement account; in accordance with VRS retirement provisions. This will be handled through a pre-tax payroll deduction.
