Director, Transfusion Services

Vitalant is hiring an experienced and dynamic Director, Transfusion Services to oversee our team assigned to our UPMC Hospital laboratories.

This individual will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of blood bank operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, implementing best practices, and driving innovation in transfusion services. The Director will collaborate with hospital business partners, laboratory staff, and leadership to optimize patient care and safety. What to Expect

Schedule: Days must be flexible to answer questions as needed for Eve/Night shifts.

The Director will oversee our Transfusion Services Lab located in the following hospitals:

As a Director, you will:

• Lead and manage all operations of the transfusion services laboratories as specified, including staff supervision, quality control, and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with hospital partners and laboratory staff to optimize transfusion protocols and patient outcomes.
• Lead and mentor your team.
• Monitor and investigate transfusion-related incidents, implementing corrective action as needed.

Education

• Bachelors Degree in chemical, physical, biological, medical technology, or medical science required.
• Masters preferred

Knowledge

• Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations as they relate to laboratory operations required.
• Knowledge of management principles including human resource management, budget administration, financial analysis, and business administration required.

Certification

• MLS/MT, BB or SBB certification required.

Experience

Ten years transfusion services experience required. To include:

• Five years supervisory experience.
