The Accountant performs various accounting functions within the Palco, including those related to bank reconciliations, bookkeeping, program operations, reporting, and payroll taxes, while ensuring compliance with accounting principles and company policies.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs daily accounting duties related to program operations, including all tasks associated with processing payroll, filing, and reporting required payroll taxes and tax reports, making journal entries, and performing reconciliations
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Performs monthly bookkeeping including reconciliation of bank accounts.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
  • Provides reports to interested parties.
  • Conduct analyses to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and relevant regulations.
  • Support internal and external audit processes.
  • Ensures professional standard of communication and rapport with all departments.
  • Oversees consistent, legitimate, and relevant quality assurance measures for division processes.
  • Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned.
  • Attends conferences, webinars, or other continuing education as needed.
  • Protects the confidentiality of employee and health records.
  • Utilize accounting software to streamline processes and enhance accuracy.
  • Assists in the following services as needed:
  • Performs training to ensure that company proprietary software is utilized properly in establishing and modifying records.
  • Assists Billing Manager with necessary general ledger entries and procedures.
  • Review general ledger for certain program services, such as income and employment verification, state unemployment claims, and Palco vendors.
  • Collaborate with department heads to assist in the budgeting and forecasting process.
  • Participates in development, training and other departmental meetings and adheres to corporate policies that concern the accounting department.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Excellent organization and time-management skills.
  • Communicates effectively with a range of individuals using person-centered techniques in all interactions.
  • Ability to handle difficult or unusual situations with professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in accounting software
  • Must possess advanced skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Must have good problem-solving and listening skills.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Accounting degree preferred.
  • Payroll, tax, and general ledger accounting background preferred.
