Summary

Responsible for oversight of daily operations of a designated service area to ensure we are being efficient and effective in meeting our customers as well as the community’s needs through adequate staffing, adequate availability of vehicles, and adequate provisions of supplies and equipment in the field.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Ensures internal and external customer happiness.
  • Directs all ambulance and related operations activities, including working closely with the Control Center to ensure effective use of all resources.
  • Establishes, reviews, and maintains procedures to ensure maximum quality and effectiveness in ambulance service delivery.
  • Cultivates partnerships with public and private organizations, including other public safety agencies, to improve the efficiency of service delivery.
  • Serves as an associate advocate while maintaining positive professional associate relations within areas of responsibility.
  • Provides written and oral presentations to governmental entities, media, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders.
  • Establishes operational goals and objectives and evaluates achievement of those goals.
  • Staffs an ambulance in a clinical role when necessary to maintain operational efficiency and provides clinical leadership for mass casualty events including staffing of incident command and / or emergency operations center (EOC) as the situation requires.
  • Assists in the development of annual departmental budget(s) and is responsible for operating according to approved budgets.
  • Responsible for preparation of department proposals for generating and increasing revenues, establishing appropriate inventory control measures, and preparing and implementing public relation efforts and marketing campaigns.
  • Assists with associate recruitment and interviewing process as needed.
  • Assists and supports other departments, such as Control Center, Billing, Health and Safety, and Education in completing their specific department goals.
  • Provides updates to the Vice President of Resource Delivery on status of and deviations from planned programs.
  • Makes recommendations to the Vice President of Resource Delivery for improvements in policies, procedures, operations and programs.
  • Other roles and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills & Knowledge Requirements

  • Must have high school diploma or GED with evidence of post high school education in addition to paramedic training.
  • Must have outstanding leadership skills that demonstrate the ability to effectively lead others.
  • Must have outstanding verbal and written communication skills that demonstrate the ability to train others.
  • Must demonstrate positive, respectful behavior in dealing with people at all levels.
  • Must possess a paramedic license issued by the State of Michigan.
  • Must meet local medical control authorization requirements.
  • Must possess current BLS card.
  • Must maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Must pass all Life EMS pre-employment requirements as outlined on the Conditional Offer of Employment.
  • Must be interviewed by the Life EMS designee.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the associate is required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance visions, color visions, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The associates must also do the following:

  • Sit and drive using frequent wrist motions and forward reaches.
  • Walk, climb stairs, carry medical equipment up to 70 lbs.
  • Push and pull wheelchairs while ascending or descending stairs with 130-pound patient.
  • Lift, push and pull stretcher to load and unload 150-pound patient (with assistance of one other Paramedic).
  • Lift and transfer loads up to 150 pounds (with assistance of one other Paramedic).
  • Climb ladder, crawl and ability to wear particulate respirator.
  • Lifting one end of stretcher weighing 105 lbs. from chest to overhead (48”-66”).
