Position Summary:
The Digital Media and Policy Manager will play a key role in advancing our mission by supporting the production of multimedia content and integrated delivery across channels to amplify and actualize our vision of racial justice and equity. This position requires a critical thinker, proficient writer, and creative who can convert emerging opportunities and big ideas into a compelling narrative that augments and changes behavior and beliefs. A successful candidate brings attention to detail, consistency, and initiative to project implementation rooted in understanding of data, audience and segmentation, and relevant industry expertise. Operationalizing these aspirations will demand strong communications, project and time management skills, relationship-building, collaboration, and ensuring continuous learning in technical developments and trends shaping the narrativeEssential Functions:
Social Media and Website Management (40%)
Work closely with narrative team and consultants on developing and implementing social media strategy and project calendar.
- Work closely with the narrative team to conceptualize, plan, write, and distribute enterprise newsletters and short-form publications
- Create and design social content including videos and graphics;
- Develop and update social media calendar and content aligned with organization-wide narrative priorities and goals;
- Develop a process for drafting, editing and sharing social media posts and website updates;
- Oversee social media channels, including content planning, scheduling, monitoring, and community management, to foster meaningful conversations and build an active online community;
- Regularly stay abreast of changes in the social media ecosystem and offer new ideas for how we can leverage social media better to achieve the organization’s mission;
Manage and optimize the website as a user-friendly hub for information, resources, and opportunities for engagement.
Participate in the narrative team’s year-long process to conceptualize, plan, write, and distribute enterprise newsletters and short-form publications.
- Work closely with Research and Policy and other teams to support and advance a robust system for the organization-wide use of relevant data, research, policies, and cultural/societal trends, such as demographic patterns locally and nationally, and developments applicable to Embrace Boston’s published issue areas: income and wealth, education, criminal legal system, housing, transportation, health, climate justice, and culture, symbols, and personhood
- Communicate research findings in ways that are accessible to a range of non-technical audiences, often through the production of reports, articles, visualizations, video, factsheets, briefings and presentations;
- Support production of digital and print collateral for activations, impact reports, research studies, and policy briefs
- Support integration of research and policy content, and messaging strategy through enterprise media, including newsletters, website, social media and activations
- Support and integrate into enterprise narrative strategy speaking engagements including conferences, keynote invitations, and high-profile collaborations/coalitions; includes writing, editing, and helping to create systems for pre- and post-event promotionals
- Support and integrate into enterprise narrative strategy public relations opportunities, including earned media on radio, podcasts, news shows, and op-ed pitching, writing, identifying, and responding;
Support and integrate into enterprise narrative strategy media and promotional opportunities around new capital projects including monuments, public art, and construction.
Data, Analytics and Learning (10%)Develop an informed and holistic approach to develop strategy and tactics that increase audience engagement, grow brand recognition, and influence measurable action;
- Establish key performance indicators and use analytics to drive a media strategy that translates campaign goals to targeted audiences;
- Create monthly reports and analyses of metrics across all media platforms;
Keep abreast of emerging and best practices for the narrative team and enterprise-wide awareness and application
Implement and update organization-wide policies and systems to ensure best practices and brand consistency across all external communications including digital, print, and public relations.
- Train all-team and any relevant vendors/partners to ensure fidelity with branding guidelines; develop and implement a system to monitor compliance, as well as updates to branding guide and trademark protections as needed
- Support the development and stewardship external relationships, helping the team expand the reach and depth of connections with key partners and stakeholders;
- Maintain, improve, and develop as needed sustainable project management and collaboration systems for efficiency, impact, and scale
- Collaborate with staff and partners to acquire, document, and interpret materials relevant to the organization's mission and community history as part of organization’s archivist function
- Facilitate access to organization materials and content for staff, internal and external partners
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge and interest in advocacy for racial & social justice;
- 2-3 years working in a non-profit, public relations, community organizing or related setting;
- Familiarity with writing social media copy, compiling analytics and monitoring social media trends as it relates to relevant news and policy developments;
- Experience building trust, shared goals, and collaborating with cross-organizational teams and diverse external partners and stakeholders
- Excellent writing, communication, and ability to write against deadline and for time-sensitive op-ed opportunities;
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience facilitating groups
- Ability to translate talking points into social media copy that is creative, concise and consistent across all platforms;
- Experience implementing social media strategies and a knowledge of the social media landscape;
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Excel, project management tools like Monday.com, Social media management tools like Buffer, email management systems e.g. Klayvio)content management systems e.g. sanity, wordpress and/or related tools;
- Experience with data visualization tools are a plus;
- Experience with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro), audio editing software (e.g., Audacity, Adobe Audition), and graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Canva, email management systems e.g. Klayvio)content management systems e.g. sanity, wordpress are required
- Strong organizational skills, and the ability to efficiently prioritize work and timelines for multiple projects;

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Ability to travel to event sites, largely in the Boston area with occasion to further regions.
- Ability to work at workstation for long periods of time;
- Ability to use a keyboard for extended periods of time;
- Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds, occasionally;
- Ability to work remotely and on-site as required;
Monday through Friday, in person, 9-5 with some evening and weekend events.
