Position Summary
The Project Engineer (PE) will provide administrative and technical engineering support for capital improvements including new construction and rehabilitation projects. Assists with construction management, including project scheduling, control and review for the airport, working through professional and support staff and construction management firms in building and improving structures and infrastructure, airside and landside. Assists with environmental permits for airport operations and construction projects.

The Project Engineer (PE) will provide administrative and technical engineering support for capital improvements including new construction and rehabilitation projects. Assists with construction management, including project scheduling, control and review for the airport, working through professional and support staff and construction management firms in building and improving structures and infrastructure, airside and landside. Assists with environmental permits for airport operations and construction projects.
Essential Functions
- Assists with development and implementation of capital projects.
- Assists in the development of project scopes working with airport management staff and consulting engineering personnel.
- Reviews project plans and proposals. Provides technical review of plans and specifications.
- Monitor/control construction through administrative direction of on-site management and assists with project close-outs.
- Works with Terminal Modernization Program projects.
- Coordinate with the Nebraska Department of Transportation (Aeronautics Division), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), contractors, engineers, and other organizations for federal/state projects.
- Manage environmental compliance, training and permits including Storm Water Pollution Prevention (SWPPP), Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plan (SPCC), and National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES).
- Coordinate with City, State and Federal agencies regarding all permits.
- Serve as the main point of contact (POC) for environmental compliance issues including reporting of any spills, leaks, contamination, or other reportable events.
- The Project Engineer must demonstrate knowledge in engineering principles, practices and methods, environmental regulations, engineering methods, and workplace safety.
- The Project Engineer should be competent in handling simultaneously occurring tasks and smaller projects and have excellent written and oral communication skills.
- The position requires analytical and mathematical skills, quick thinking, and a solid understanding of the main principles of engineering, construction, and architecture.
- A successful Project Engineer should also seek out available professional development and continuing education opportunities.
- Follow all requirements of the company safety program.
- Take personal responsibility for safety and quality in the work environment.
- Proficient personal computer skills include current administrative, financial and scheduling software or similar products.
- Incumbent must be capable of utilizing the following office equipment and software: Computer/Laptop equipment
- Engineer in Training or Licensed Engineer, possessing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (or other engineering degree), or related field with 0 to 5 years relevant experience with facility construction and project engineering.
