Position Summary
The Mechanical Design Engineer will work within a multidisciplinary team to maintain, improve, and design products within their discipline. This position reports to Engineering Manager II - Mechanical and is located at Banner’s global headquarters in Plymouth, MN.

Position Summary
The Mechanical Design Engineer will work within a multidisciplinary team to maintain, improve, and design products within their discipline. This position reports to Engineering Manager II - Mechanical and is located at Banner’s global headquarters in Plymouth, MN.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supporting customer applications by verifying application feasibility or investigating application issues
- Creating or revising designs within their discipline
- Using tools and hands-on experimentation to explore design considerations
- Performing tolerance stack analyses, advanced hand calculations, proof-of-concept demonstrations, and failure analyses
- Identifying and resolving a wide variety of mechanical design issues
- Learning Banner technologies, processes, and product line
- Supporting product development efforts with cross-functional teams
- Providing work direction to Technicians as necessary
- Developing and executing product test plans on assigned projects
- Performing competitive product testing
- Using Oracle ERP for cost analyses and operation data
- Authoring design FMEA’s with some guidance
- Creating and managing product documentation including bill of materials (BOMs), design verification reports, dimensional prints, and engineering change orders (ECOs)
- Adhering to compliance regulations set forth by various agencies, such as CE, UL, etc.
- Resolving part and process issues by working with production engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers
- Working with global suppliers on qualifying mechanical parts made from a variety of processes including injection molding, machining, metal-forming, and die-casting
- Documenting product specifications, generating concept ideas, and assists with concept selection based on rating criteria
- Performing qualification tests to ensure conformance to specifications
- Developing detailed designs and documentation, including tolerance analysis, for collaboration with suppliers in the DFM process

Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 0-5 years of related engineering experience
- Strong working knowledge of Solid Modeling, Creo preferred
- Basic knowledge of FEA, CFD, Moldflow, and motion analysis
- Working knowledge of fabrication processes, such as plastic injection molding, machining, metal forming, die-casting, plating, laser cutting, and 3D printing
- Understanding of material properties of plastics, metals, and metal plating
- Ability to understand product requirements as they relate to customer needs
- Data driven design analysis
- Ability to conduct comprehensive product design reviews
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Strong communication skills and ability to multitask
- Intermediate experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel
- Experience in product design for industrial applications
- Experience planning and leading projects
- Exposure to advanced assembly techniques, such as SMD, COB, ultrasonic welding, laser welding, insert/overmolding, and epoxy encapsulation
- Experience designing plastic injection molded parts including analysis with mold flow
- Working knowledge of metrology and associated equipment (CMM, Calipers, thread gauges, drop gages, etc)
