Responsibilities
As an Underwriting Assistant, you will be instrumetal in the achievement of company growth and profitability goals by performing a wide variety of underwriting and underwriting support tasks. You'll underwrite both new and renewal commercial property/casualty accounts or prepare quotes (within your authority level) by examining information provided in the application, related documents and resources to determine the risk acceptability and pricing. You'll consult our agent partners and various sources for additional information when necessary. You will then forward to Processing Team for rating. We'll trust you to route risk-involved matters that are beyond assigned authority to Underwriter for evaluation.

- Evaluate renewal commercial property/casualty accounts and endorsements, within authority level, by reviewing updated account information, claims experience, risk management surveys, risk acceptability and pricing. Consult agents for additional information when necessary. Forward to Processing team for rating.
- Develop and maintain professional, productive working relationships with agency force to encourage profitability, growth and good understanding of our Company’s pricing and risk selection philosophy. Assist agents with questions regarding accounts.
- Review incoming correspondence to determine proper procedural action. Maintain established department service and quality standards.
- Assist Underwriters with accounts exceeding the Underwriting Assistant's authority level. This may include updating information, completing worksheets, contacting the agent for information, and/or performing general underwriting of the account for the Underwriter's review and approval.
What you need to have:
- Two years related work experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to accurately keyboard and utilize multiple computer systems
- Identify and interpret a variety of insurance documents and forms
- Accurately complete highly detailed work with minimal errors
- Perform multiple duties and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Respond professionally to customer inquiries
- Commercial rating experience desired
- Advanced insurance education desired, e.g., INS, AU, CPCU, etc
- Prioritize and organize assigned tasks
