Position: Production Manager

Expected Weekly Hours: 35-40

Wage: $27.62-28.73 starting

Classification: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Benefits: 401k Retirement matching (up to 4%), PTO, Sick Time, paid holidays, alternative commuting benefits, paid volunteer hours, and free coffee. Employees working over 25 hours per week are eligible for 75% covered health care, supplemental/dental pre-tax, paid holidays, paid parental leave. 5-week paid sabbatical every 5 years worked, opportunity to travel to coffee producing countries with expenses paid by 3rd year anniversary as part of the Nossa Tours.

About You

Essential Functions

  • Coffee Production:
  • Enthusiastic about producing coffee products daily. Label, fill, and seal various SKUs. Work alongside the Production Team, leading by example in everything you do.
  • Allocate products accurately to orders daily. Ensure all orders are fulfilled accurately and on time. Systemize and train employees to reduce fulfillment errors.
  • Inventory Management and Purchasing:
  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure adequate supply of raw materials, packaging, and other inventory items.
  • Assess coffee inventory needs weekly to allocate labor appropriately and ensure coffee stock remains fresh to expected standards.
  • Forecasting and Demand Planning:
  • Analyze sales data to accurately forecast product demand. Use this information to plan labor needs and production needs.
  • Develop and implement demand planning strategies to meet production and sales targets.
  • Collaborate with other departments to align production with business needs. Proactively obtain information of business activities to ensure production is prepared in advance.
  • Employee Management:
  • Recruit, hire, train, and mentor production staff.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
  • Address performance issues and execute disciplinary actions, including terminations when necessary.
  • Scheduling and Labor Planning:
  • Develop and maintain production schedules to optimize labor for production needs.
  • Adjust schedules to accommodate employee absences, unexpected orders, and equipment malfunctions.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels to meet production demands.
  • Warehouse Organization and Cleanliness:
  • Oversee the organization and cleanliness of the warehouse and production areas.
  • Implement and maintain effective storage solutions to maximize space, efficiency, and overall cleanliness. Spearhead Kaizen endeavors, always seeking improvements in workspace cleanliness and organization.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Workflow Efficiency Improvements:
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance workflow efficiency.
  • Utilize lean manufacturing and Kaizen principles to minimize waste and optimize productivity.
  • Monitor production metrics and adjust processes to achieve performance goals.
  • Shipping and Receiving Documentation:
  • Ensure accurate documentation of all incoming and outgoing shipments. Maintain detailed records of shipping and receiving activities.

Skills And Traits

  • Detail-oriented. Strong attention to detail related to record-keeping, inventory management, people management, and production management, including food safety.
  • Problem-solver. Proactive in identifying issues and capable of managing those disruptions without oversight
  • Adaptable. Eager to manage change. Excited to find solutions to problems.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of direct management experience with proven ability to lead and manage a team.
  • 2+ years' experience managing a team of 6 or more employees.
  • 2+ years of manufacturing or warehouse experience (or equivalent) with a proven understanding of production planning, scheduling, and lean/Kaizen methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of direct management experience in the food production business.
  • 3+ years of food manufacturing management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations, or an equivalent field.
  • Proficient with:
  • Excel
  • QuickBooks or similar accounting or ERP software
  • Katana MRP or other manufacturing software
  • Shopify
  • ShipStation or other fulfillment software

Work Environment

Office: The office has an open layout and is adjacent to the roasting facility. The work environment can be noisy and busy at times.

Warehouse: While performing production duties, you will be subject to loud noises, strong aromatics and a fine coating of ground coffee. The warehouse is only partially insulated, the work environment is hot in the summer, cold in the winter.

Physical Demands

Warehouse: While performing production duties, the employee is required to stand for long periods of time, and the ability to label, fold, roll, manipulate and lift barrels and bags of roasted coffee is required. While performing their duties, production and delivery employees may be required to lift up to 50lbs of coffee in barrels or boxes by themselves.
