Mainframe Systems Programmer

Job Summary:

• The Mainframe Systems Programmer will be responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and optimizing the Wyoming Department of Transportation's RIS driver services program.
• This role requires extensive experience in mainframe system programming, problem resolution, and third-party software integration.
• The Systems Programmer will work closely with the ADABAS Database Administrator to ensure seamless operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, configure, maintain, and support Z/OS operating systems and associated components.
• Analyze, develop, modify, and debug vendor-supplied utilities and software packages.
• Diagnose, isolate, and resolve complex software and system issues.
• Monitor system performance and capacity, implementing necessary optimizations.
• Plan and execute disaster recovery procedures, ensuring business continuity.
• Provide Tier 2 technical support for mainframe environments.
• Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot BMC Control-M scheduler software.
• Manage and integrate third-party software solutions, including VTAM-SWITCH and other ISV software.
• Collaborate with the ADABAS Database Administrator and other IT staff to ensure system reliability and efficiency.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Mainframe Systems Programmer.
• Extensive knowledge of Z/OS operating system, system utilities, and debugging tools.
• Experience with BMC Control-M job scheduler software.
• Strong understanding of disaster recovery planning and implementation.
• Familiarity with third-party mainframe software such as VTAM-SWITCH.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Must pass background checks compatible with Wyoming DCI requirements.
