Description

SUMMARY

The Controller will oversee the organization’s financial operations, general accounting and budget planning, including oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable and financial reporting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Oversee the daily accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger activity.
  • Review financial processes on an on-going basis for the purpose of developing and implementing necessary improvements to ensure effective and efficient financial operations.
  • Develop and implement systems and processes to establish and maintain accurate financial records while maintaining appropriate accounting principles, practices and procedures.
  • Direct the preparation of the agency budget; review and prepare programmatic budget proposals and prepare necessary supporting documentation.
  • Reconcile all banking and financial accounts in a timely manner.
  • Monitor the agency's financial reports and determine ways to reduce costs, find efficiencies and collect payments.
  • Assist the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in the preparation of financial reports and special analyses.
  • Assist in preparing for independent financial and accounting audits.
  • Provide support to payroll and tax reporting activities.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration or related field. Five to seven years of experience managing financial operations is required. Three to five years of supervisory experience is required.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience using an organization-wide financial system.
  • Advanced skills utilizing Microsoft applications, specifically Excel.
  • Ability to work independently, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong supervisory and project management skills and experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to the cultural differences present among the agency’s service population, required.
  • Previous experience in non-profit accounting, desired.
  • Must have a valid driver's license which meets the requirements of the agency's insurance carrier.
