JOB SUMMARY
As the Residential President, you will act as the Integrator (EOS term) for our leadership team, ensuring the smooth operation and alignment of all departments within the residential division. You will oversee daily operations, implement and manage systems and processes, and drive execution to achieve strategic goals. Using the EOS framework, you will ensure the team effectively executes the division’s vision with clear communication and collaboration across all functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operational Strategy & Execution:
- Faithfully execute the business plan, ensuring that we meet or exceed planned P&L objectives. Lead the implementation of operational strategies that align with long-term goals and drive business growth, efficiency, and quality. Drive the execution of the division’s strategic vision with a focus on operational excellence and achieving financial goals.
- Vision and Execution Leadership:
- Build, lead, manage, and hold the Leadership Team accountable for achieving agreed-upon commitments. Ensure all team members are aligned with the division’s goals and objectives, providing regular feedback and guidance to help teams deliver on their promises. As the Integrator, ensure that the entire leadership team is focused on the greater good of the business and working together effectively.
- Cross Department Integration:
- Integrate all major operating functions of the business, ensuring that all departments— construction, land development, human resources, finance, sales, and marketing—are working cohesively and efficiently toward common goals. Ensure that everyone is “rowing in the same direction” and focused on achieving the division's overall objectives.
- Problem Solving & Conflict Resolution:
- Resolve issues effectively by identifying real problems, being comfortable with conflict, and addressing challenges in a healthy, practical manner. Foster an environment where problems are openly acknowledged, and solutions are sought collaboratively. Ensure that the Leadership Team is healthy, functional, and cohesive, maintaining strong working relationships across the team.
- Core Process Adherence:
- Ensure that all teams are adhering to the division’s Core Processes and operating systems with consistency. Be a champion for process discipline, ensuring that projects are managed effectively and consistently, and that everyone follows the established operational procedures.
- Values Alignment & Organizational Focus:
- Maintain a relentless obsession with values alignment, ensuring that every team member upholds the division’s values. Drive a culture of focus, simplicity, and clarity across the organization, making sure that everyone is aligned with the division’s mission and vision.
- Collaboration with the Visionary:
- Effectively collaborate with the Visionary, ensuring a high level of mutual respect and understanding. Recognize the unique contributions and ideas of the Visionary and work together to translate those ideas into functional, executable plans for the division. Ensure that both the Visionary’s vision and the COO’s execution are aligned and complementary.
- Communication & Message Cascading:
- Confirm that all key messages are properly and consistently cascaded across the organization. Ensure that effective communication exists throughout all levels of the division, from the leadership team down to field operations. Maintain transparency and clarity in communication to ensure that everyone in the division is in the know and understands their role in achieving division goals.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, business administration, or related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
- Proven track record of 8+ years in a senior leadership role (COO, Integrator, or equivalent) within a well-run organization, ideally in construction management, real estate or similar. Experience managing diverse teams and driving cross-functional projects.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire operational teams to meet objectives. Experience in managing cross-functional teams and driving performance across departments.
- Strong financial and budget management skills. Ability to interpret financial data and implement cost-effective strategies.
- Ability to think strategically, develop operational plans, and execute the division’s vision. Proven track record of driving growth, streamlining operations, and increasing efficiency.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to communicate clearly with stakeholders at all levels, from team members to clients and vendors.
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills. Ability to resolve conflicts, address challenges, and guide teams through complex issues.
- Familiarity with the EOS system or similar frameworks is a plus. A passion for driving clarity, accountability, and results across the organization.
- Ability to represent AVB well in the community and on community boards and events.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The work environment described here represents what the employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This role requires the ability to sit for extended periods while working at a desk, participating in meetings, and using a computer. This role may require visiting construction sites, which may involve walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs or ladders, and wearing safety equipment. The ability to navigate various construction environments safely is necessary. Some travel may be required to visit construction sites, attend meetings, or engage with clients, contractors, or vendors. Travel may involve both local and out-of-town trips. The position requires clear, effective verbal communication, including speaking during meetings, presentations, and negotiations, and maintaining clear communication with team members, contractors, and clients. The ability to use a computer, phone, and other office equipment is necessary for this role. This includes tasks such as typing, writing, and using office tools.
