The Senior Manager, Market Segments, is a leadership role, reporting to the VP of Scientific Strategy and Market Development, responsible for executing scientific applications and business development across five key segments Genomics, Proteomics, Cellomics, Regulated & Forensics, and Environmental & Industrial.
This position ensures research and development efforts align with market needs, fosters strategic partnerships, and oversees scientific initiatives within these segments. Additionally, this role functions as a working manager, with potential direct oversight of a market segment.
Essential Job Functions
The Senior Manager, Market Segments, is a leadership role, reporting to the VP of Scientific Strategy and Market Development, responsible for executing scientific applications and business development across five key segments Genomics, Proteomics, Cellomics, Regulated & Forensics, and Environmental & Industrial.
This position ensures research and development efforts align with market needs, fosters strategic partnerships, and oversees scientific initiatives within these segments. Additionally, this role functions as a working manager, with potential direct oversight of a market segment.
Essential Job Functions
- Directly manage the Market Segment Leader Team and provide hands-on leadership and technical expertise to ensure clear objectives and alignment with strategic objectives. Participate in hiring, training, and professional development initiatives for the Market Segment Leader team
- Work closely with senior leadership to execute strategic plans that position Hamilton’s solutions across the five market segments to ensure alignment with business growth and innovation goals. Broad management responsibilities target 60%-time commitment
- Foster scientific partnerships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), industry stakeholders, and research institutions to drive innovation and collaboration
- Guide the development of application-focused solutions and assay ready workstations within the target market segments
- Oversee a market segment as a working manager to drive project execution and scientific excellence in this market. Market Segment responsibilities target 40%-time commitment
- Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, unmet scientific needs, and competitive landscape insights within segment
- Partner with Commercial and Business Development teams to assess potential collaborations, investment opportunities, and new market expansion strategies
- Work closely with Product Management, Automation Engineering, and R&D teams to guide the development of genomics-specific automation solutions
- Translate scientific insights into actionable business strategies, providing data-driven recommendations for product development and commercialization
- Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) in automation solutions for market segments and provide scientific input on user requirements and application needs
- Assist in the design and execution of pre- and post-sales demonstrations, industry trade shows, and scientific meetings to showcase Hamilton’s capabilities and innovation
- Collaborate with MarCom to ensure scientifically accurate and compelling marketing collateral, including white papers, application notes, and technical documentation
- Scientific expertise across key market segments
- Genomics Deep understanding of next-generation sequencing workflows, library preparation automation, and emerging genomic applications
- Proteomics Proficiency with mass spectrometry sample preparation, protein purification techniques, and high-throughput protein analysis
- Cellomics Knowledge of cell culture automation, single-cell analysis methodologies, and cell-based assay development
- Regulated & Forensics Understanding of regulatory requirements (GMP, GLP, 21 CFR Part 11) and validation processes for clinical and diagnostic applications
- Environment & Industrial Familiarity with environmental testing, food safety protocols, and industrial QC applications
- Demonstrated mastery in at least one of these segments, with working knowledge across all five areas
- Excellent understanding of laboratory automation and liquid handling technologies
- Proven ability to develop market strategies and scientific partnerships
- Experience evaluating competitive technologies and their positioning within target markets
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills
- Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences, including executives, commercial teams, and external stakeholders
- Experience in managing cross-functional teams and projects
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as needed
- Ph.D. in a relevant life science field (e.g. Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, etc.) required
- 5+ years of experience in scientific leadership, business development, or market strategy roles within the life sciences industry
- Experience with laboratory automation and capital equipment strongly preferred
- Demonstrated success in developing scientific partnerships and guiding product-market fit strategies
- Prior experience leading or managing scientific teams is highly desirable
