Summary
The Supervisor, in collaboration with the Vice President/General Manager, Director, and appropriate interdisciplinary team members, provides support services for physicians, nurses, and/or allied health providers at both hub and client sites. The supervisor will support or be responsible for multiple operational activities including client implementation, hub and site staff training, quality improvement activities, regulatory compliance and provider licensing, credentialing, and privileging. The supervisor will routinely work in the hub and will travel as necessary to support implementation and training activities.

Based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Avel operates a multispecialty telemedicine network, partnering with more than 650 health care systems, rural hospitals, outpatient clinics, long-term care facilities, school districts, prisons, skilled nursing facilities and law enforcement agencies to deliver innovative telemedicine care across the country.
During the past three decades, Avel has developed eight distinct telehealth services, —Behavioral Health, Critical Care, Emergency, Hospitalist, Pharmacy, Specialty Care, Senior Care and School Health—in response to needs expressed by the communities and clinicians whom Avel serves. The efficiency of these telehealth services have saved health care costs and unnecessary time and travel for patients and physicians. Essential Functions
- In collaboration with the Director, assists with the development of goals and objectives for the Avel eCare Behavioral Health service and maintains knowledge of operating policies, procedures. Assures implementation and compliance. Participates in action steps to assure budget objectives are achieved, and cost and expense objectives are met.
- Communicates frequently with the staff and reports feedback in a timely manner to the Director. Participates in the assessments, communicating with physicians, families, community agencies, social services, home care, therapies, case managers, and other disciplines involved in the referral of patients for assessment/admission.
- Coordinates the completion of staffing schedules and maintains appropriate staffing levels to maximize department efficiency. Participates in staff assignments as needed to maintain efficiency within the office. Maintains flexibility and accepts work on weekends, off shifts and holidays as needed.
- Monitors daily performance of the staff, detects unsatisfactory trends and performance deficiencies. Addresses these issues with appropriate individuals and reports to the Director. Provides information to the Director for performance evaluations. Assists in developing corrective action plans.
- Maintains a high level of clinical competency and projects high standards of performance expectations for personnel with the office. Shares knowledge with staff and serves as a role model. Maintains clinical skills as required and documented in unit-specific, competency-based criteria.
- Assesses educational needs of staff and assists with ongoing staff development opportunities and mentoring new staff. Coordinates and conducts staff orientation and training. Develops and coordinates the unit based competency program specific to each category of staff member.
- Assist with recruitment and retention of competent staff and supports initiatives to maintain a proud, satisfied work force.
- In collaboration with the Director, will collect data, complete chart audits, and monitor for trends that could be used to improve operations and affect patient outcomes.
- Assist with completion of time and attendance.
- Assists Director in assessing and handling of patient/family concerns. Assists with service recovery at sites.
- Will assist in completing assessments for patients in need of assessment.
- Promote the Avel eCare Behavioral Health program and do presentations on behalf of Avel when requested.
- Monitor completion of mandatory in-services and all preparation activities for JCAHO and other surveying organizations.
- Graduate from a CCNE or NLN accredited nursing program is strongly preferred. Graduate from an approved nursing program is acceptable.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
- Three to five years behavioral health experience.
- Previous management experience preferred.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse with one unrestricted state license is required.
- RN Licensure required within the states that eCare Behavioral Health is providing service within 120 days of hire.
- Certification in Psychiatric – Mental Health Nursing preferred.
- Membership in a professional organization preferred.
- Completion of Child & Dependent Adult Abuse for Iowa Mandatory Reporters course required for Iowa employees within 90 days of employment and every 3 years thereafter.
- This position requires a valid driver’s license, and that the employee is insurable by the Avel automobile liability insurance carrier.
