Overview

The UnityPoint Health Analytics team is responsible for enabling clinical, operational, and financial outcomes improvement through consultative partnerships and the use of data and analytics. The team members are leaders in transforming UPH into a data-informed, continuous-improvement organization with highly reliable and sustainable results.

The Analytics Engineer is an intermediate position within the Analytics structure. The Analytics Engineer supports the entire analytics life cycle, although focuses their time on building data-driven products. The Analytics Engineer works across a multi-disciplinary team including IT ETL, analytics business partners, and analytics consumers and organizes and transforms data in a meaningful way. The Analytics Engineer has a broad understanding of the data sources and tools available to convert data to insights in analytics solutions that are used by leaders and providers across the organization.

Location: Remote - Applicants preferrably reside in the UnityPoint Health geographical areas of Iowa, Illinois, or Wisconsin

Hours: 40 hours/week, weekdays

Responsibilities

50% - Analytics Engineering & Development

  • Scope analytics development using industry standard tools and delivers routine status reports
  • Create integrated views of data collected from multiple sources
  • Work with the IT ETL team to build and maintain complex data models
  • Organize and transform data in a meaningful way, including providing additional context as necessary, so that it is ready for reporting and analysis
  • Write production-quality code with an eye towards performance, reusability and maintainability
  • Design and develop moderately complex analytics solutions that are used by clinicians, leaders, and team members across assigned domains
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the data sources and data structures

25% - Analysis & Visualization

  • Analyze data to extract insights which help improve decision-marking and outcomes
  • Design and develop moderately complex analytics solutions that are used by clinicians, leaders, and team members across assigned domains
  • Utilize industry-leading practices to effectively communicate analytics insights through visualizations and storytelling
  • Build and maintain dashboards, reports, and presentations as needed to communicate analytics insights to key stakeholders across the organization
  • Document analysis processes so that other team members can understand how the insights were generated and replicate in future releases
  • Use quantitative models to execute ad hoc analyses, special requests and management reports and make the results accessible and relevant to a wide variety of analytics consumers

15% - Analytics Deployment

  • Support executive sponsors and data literacy champions in the deployment of new and existing analytics solutions
  • Develop and maintain an effective and high performing project teams by taking a leadership role on moderately complex projects independently or as part of a larger project team
  • Develop analytics consumer-facing documentation including user guides, training videos, and lunch-and-learn sessions
  • Take a leadership role in the support and implementation process by independently handling multiple competing initiatives, escalating issues effectively, and developing implementation and support plans as needed
  • Make recommendations for design enhancements and support the prioritization of enhancements on assigned projects
  • Identify root causes of break / fix issues and develop lasting solutions within the scope of assigned tasks

10% - Data Literacy and At-the-Elbow Analytics Suppor

  • Actively integrate business strategy with analytics and develop trusting relationships with key stakeholders in assigned areas
  • Focus on understanding business problems, analytics project objectives, and requirements from a business perspective
  • Translate customer requirements into analytics solutions
  • Review analytics technology needs within assigned areas of responsibility by taking a leadership role in the design and analysis process
  • Plan, manage, and coordinate support for assigned areas of responsibility
  • Demonstrate the ability to take a leadership role beyond the task level and seek new opportunities to grow your knowledge base
  • Actively contribute to the development of analytics strategic initiatives and aid in their execution
  • Support the analytics needs of the organizationâ€s strategic initiatives by advancing data-informed decision-making that improve clinical and business outcomes
  • Demonstrate initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Operations Research, Business, Business Analytics, Healthcare Administration, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Actuarial Science or related field
  • Equivalent experience of at least 5 years working in an analytics or healthcare operations setting that includes demonstrated results driving improvements using data and analytics methodologies and techniques
  • Demonstrated proficiency in presenting information to other groups
  • Requires communications and negotiation skills to effectively work with all levels of management throughout UPH, its subsidiaries and affiliates
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical use of health information standards
  • Informal leadership skills and ability to work as a team member
  • Strong understanding of analytical methods, tools, statistics and data management
  • Familiarity with healthcare business operations
