About Your Role
Government Banking Officer (GBO) is responsible for managing and maintaining existing Government Banking Clients by identifying new business opportunities, proposing and delivering appropriate Treasury Management products and solutions for new and existing clients who seek a Trusted Advisor. The goal of the GBO is to deliver exceptional customer service while employing appropriate risk mitigation processes for the client and the Bank. The GBO will be expected to have a strong understanding of Treasury Management products and OceanFirst Treasury Management systems and processes.

About Your Role
Government Banking Officer (GBO) is responsible for managing and maintaining existing Government Banking Clients by identifying new business opportunities, proposing and delivering appropriate Treasury Management products and solutions for new and existing clients who seek a Trusted Advisor. The goal of the GBO is to deliver exceptional customer service while employing appropriate risk mitigation processes for the client and the Bank. The GBO will be expected to have a strong understanding of Treasury Management products and OceanFirst Treasury Management systems and processes.
What You Will Do
- Prospect and establish new Government, Higher-Ed and Non-Profit relationships through direct sourcing and referral relationships.
- The GBO is expected to increase deposits and fee income, expand portfolio, and deepen existing relationships.
- Develops and maintains an active sales pipeline in SalesForce and generates referrals for Internal partners.
- Meet or exceed assigned sales goals.
- Maintain existing Government, Higher Education and Non-profit relationships.
- Prepare and present sales proposals to Government, Higher-ed and Non-profit entities to obtain new business.
- Pro-actively recommend enhancements to existing Treasury Management products and services for the benefit of the Government Banking client base.
- Serves as Subject Matter Expert (SME) and trusted advisor to recommend and promote Treasury Management solutions to Government Banking clients/prospects while working within the risk parameters of the Bank.
- Primary contact person for Government Banking clients with focus on the delivery of customized Treasury Management products and services.
- Works closely with Treasury Client Services, Government Banking Administrator and Implementation colleagues to ensure smooth transition of requests.
- Participate and partner with marketing in the organization of and attend Government Banking client events.
- Provide strong relationship management to ensure customer satisfaction and retention. Direct inquiries and issues to appropriate business partners.
- Provide timely updates to Director of Government Banking and Director of Treasury Management on new business development initiatives.
- Monitor and report trends in existing accounts to anticipate and resolve potential issues.
- Make joint sales, prospect, and referral source calls with Trust, Branch Management and Treasury Management.
- Attends and participates in Treasury Management and Treasury product/service training.
- Active involvement in Government Banking community events and organizations. Attending networking functions outside of typical business hours.
- Involvement with RFP process, leading and collaborating with Government Banking Administrator to ensure timely processing and complete proposals.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of Bank policies & procedures and Local, State, and Federal banking regulations, with proven ability to apply same.
- Strong understanding of financial products and services, specifically Treasury management needs from ACH, Wire Transfers, and On-Site deposit services.
- Demonstrated ability to develop effective sales calling programs.
- Excellent proposal, presentation, verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong sales, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to recognize opportunities and maintain key relationships.
- Proven business development skills.
- Possess strong positive team leading skills to proactively drive marketing initiatives in order to secure revenue-generating partnerships
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other software programs.
- Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in business management, finance or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of five years proven sales experience.
- Prior experience in Governmental higher education and non-profit banking.
- Internal contact with various departments within all divisions of the Bank, including senior management.
- Frequent interaction with community leaders .
