Position Summary:
The Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving meals to residents in accordance with prescribed dietary requirements and sanitation regulations. This position plays a critical role in maintaining resident health, satisfaction, and overall well-being through nutritious, safe, and delicious food.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook meals according to planned menus and resident diets (regular, mechanical soft, pureed, therapeutic diets, etc.).
- Follow standardized recipes and portion controls.
- Ensure meals are served at proper temperatures and within scheduled meal times.
- Maintain food safety and sanitation standards in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (including HACCP guidelines).
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of the kitchen, including cleaning and sanitizing food preparation areas, utensils, and equipment.
- Label, date, and store food properly to prevent spoilage or cross-contamination.
- Monitor and record food temperatures, refrigerator/freezer temps, and other required logs.
- Work collaboratively with dietary aides and other team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
- Communicate any supply shortages, equipment issues, or resident food concerns to the Dietary Manager.
- Assist with special meals/events as required (holidays, birthdays, etc.).
- Follow safety protocols and report any hazards or accidents promptly.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum 1 year of cooking experience in a healthcare, long-term care, or institutional setting preferred.
- Knowledge of therapeutic diets and texture modifications preferred.
- Must be able to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
- ServSafe Certification or equivalent food handler training preferred (or ability to obtain upon hire).
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Rotating schedule with two primary shifts:
- Morning Shift: 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM
- Evening Shift: 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM
- Must be available to work weekends and holidays as scheduled.
- Able to stand, bend, reach, and walk for extended periods.
- Lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
- Tolerate hot and cold temperature environments in kitchen areas.
