Serán BioScience is searching for a Senior or Principal Scientist or Engineer to join our Product Development team! The role will lead projects that solve formulation challenges for novel pharmaceutical compounds. Activities include, but are not limited to, pre-formulation assessments of compound properties, identification of strategic formulation strategies, formulation screening for enabled formulations (amorphous dispersions, lipids, particle size reduction, etc.), drug product design and formulation development, and support for transfer of formulations and processes into cGMP manufacturing.

The role balances benchtop experimental work with experimental design, data analysis, and project leadership. Strong communication and collaboration skills are required to excel in this fast-paced, interdisciplinary team environment. Direct experience in pharmaceutical product development is required, and the ideal candidate will also be able to apply their strong fundamental background to quickly master core concepts and experimental techniques in a new areas. The ideal candidate has an interest and skill in providing leadership and mentorship, and the role may require management of direct reports.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Independently leads multiple projects and guides program strategy
  • Develops and manages workplans and timelines
  • Independently develops experimental protocols and templates based on project need
  • Independently summarizes, reports, and analyzes data to draw conclusions and proposes next steps
  • Identifies out of trend data, forms hypothesis and investigates
  • Evaluates data and draws conclusions across data sets/projects
  • Contributes to laboratory, instrument, and/or equipment maintenance and coordination
  • Communicates technical information to internal team
  • Independently communicates technical information to external partners
  • Authors technical reports and presentations with minimal guidance
  • May manage direct reports and mentor junior scientists and engineers
  • Responsibilities may increase in scope to align with company initiatives
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

  • Communicates effectively and maintains productive relationships with coworkers, clients, and other contacts outside of the company

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software


Education And Experience (Level Adjusted Based On Experience)

  • B.S. in Science or Engineering discipline with 5+ years experience
  • M.S. in Science or Engineering discipline with 3+ years experience
  • PhD in Science or Engineering discipline


Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds regularly and up to 30 pounds occasionally
  • Motor skills required for basic laboratory operations (pouring liquids, using utensils to transfer powders, visual assessments)
  • Adheres to consistent and predicable in-person attendance
