Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio is seeking a mission-minded Associate to join us as a full-time (37.5 per week) Laboratory Technician.
Summary
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing screening and/or confirmation testing. The individual filling this position will accurately perform analyte testing in a high complexity lab in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio is seeking a mission-minded Associate to join us as a full-time (37.5 per week) Laboratory Technician.

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing screening and/or confirmation testing. The individual filling this position will accurately perform analyte testing in a high complexity lab in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

- Follows the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results
- Maintains records which demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens
- Prepares reagents, calibrators, and controls as outlined in the laboratory SOPs
- Participates in the laboratory’s quality assurance program by accurately calibrating instrument/laboratory equipment, analyzing quality control (QC) samples, recording QC results, and responding to QC exceptions with resolution of problems. Documents reagent, calibrators, and control preparations. Tracks lot numbers on all reagents, calibrators, and controls and date placed into service.
- Maintains proper reagent inventory by participating in inventory tracking and ordering. Receives new inventory, logs, and places in appropriate locations
- Keeps screening area in laboratory clean and neat
- Follows the laboratory’s policies, including taking and documenting corrective actions, whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance
- Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or test result reporting and corrects the problem or notifies the appropriate supervisor
- Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications
- If required by route of qualification, performs high complexity testing under the on-site direct supervision of a Laboratory Supervisor
- Performs other duties as assigned by Laboratory Supervisor

Qualifications

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
- Associate’s degree in laboratory science, medical laboratory technology, or a related field; bachelor’s degree preferred
- Or, 60 semester hours of coursework in biology/chemistry plus at least 3 months of documented laboratory training in high-complexity testing
- Experience with molecular diagnostics, PCR testing, or microbiology is a plus
- Strong understanding of pipetting techniques, aseptic handling, and contamination control
- Ability to follow written procedures and regulatory guidelines accurately
- Previous experience working in a high-complexity CLIA-certified lab.
- Familiarity with LIMS, data entry, and troubleshooting PCR instrumentation.
