Electrical Engineering Intern

For nearly 80 years Rice Lake Weighing Systems (RLWS) has been a successful, growth-oriented company known as a leader in the weighing industry. Rice Lake Weighing Systems is seeking an Electrical or Computer Engineering Student for a paid Internship at their Kent, WA facility. The Electrical Engineering Intern will be an essential member of the engineering team and work closely with electrical, software, and mechanical engineering to support new product development, production, and product support. The Intern will gain experience in Analog, Digital, and Embedded Microprocessor circuitry design working with the electrical and software engineering team. This is a 40 hour per week position during the summer months of June through August/September.

Responsibilities:

• Work with highly precise electronic assemblies testing new designs, and help to bring new products to production.
• Work with Production to create work instructions and test procedures necessary to build, configure, and test products.
• Review product user manuals to ensure that they are technically correct and cover all product functionality.
• Participate in engineering design reviews to catch any errors and suggest improvements.
• Troubleshoot the root cause of production hardware failures and customer returns.
  
  

Required Skills

• Entering Junior or Senior year – exceptional Sophomores may apply.
• English proficiency – good grammar and technical writing skills
• MS Office Skills – Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• Ability to clearly describe product operation, testing, and production requirements so they can be followed by non-technical people, such as production technicians, sales, and customers.
• Functional and Cross-Functional teamwork
• Ability to support and work closely with engineering, sales, product support, and production support.
• Familiar with operation and use of electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, bench power supplies).
• Testing and debug of electronic hardware:
• Reading of schematics and component datasheets
• Hands on probing and soldering
• Creation of test procedures and reports
• Electrical design skills (schematic design, datasheets, component selection)

• Design and testing of switching power supplies, Delta-Sigma A/D converters, LCD and LED display circuitry
• Linux – configuration and scripts
• Programming – C, Python, Java
• PCB layout
• Visual Basic Scripting for MS Office applications
