Job Summary
In collaboration with the Accounting Manager and Controller the Payables Accountant is responsible for day-to-day accounting functions and performing tasks related to month and year-end close, payables or receivables, and invoicing. This position will ensure accuracy and quality control across the accounting programs, functions and daily tasks. The Payables Account will also interact with program participants and so must be familiar with the Residential Service Guidelines issued by the Developmental Disabilities Administration. At all times the Payables Accountant will seek to act in accord with the principles and values expressed in the guidelines and uphold the agency mission “to serve individuals with developmental disabilities by providing accessible residential and other support services that will maximize the person’s quality of life.”
Day-to-Day
$27.50/hr
Wage Scale
$27.50 - 33.10/hr

Day-to-Day
- Perform the necessary accounting duties that will accomplish accurate and timely record keeping for the agency’s accounts payable including agency credit cards, expense reports and general billing invoices.
- Maintain all reports, spreadsheets and files
- Update accounting software and set up new vendors, contractors or other service providers as required
- Receive, review, reconcile and process billing invoices and miscellaneous check requests; Ensure documentation is received and verified
- Complete check and disbursement runs as scheduled and obtain appropriate signatures
- Manage the corporate purchasing card program including activation or deactivation of users, audit of purchasing card statements, maintenance of the sign off infrastructure and facilitation of card limit changes
- Provide oversight and support to assigned finance programs and functions
- Review and reconcile petty cash funds; manage reimbursements and supplemental funding of petty cash
- Perform general accounting and bookkeeping duties as needed for contracted services
- Assist Director of Finance and Controller and participate in monthly and annual budget preparation and audits; assist with special projects and ad hoc reporting
- Utilize Financial Edge or productivity software daily to manage and perform all assigned tasks
- Recommend system and process improvement to the Controller; Assist with the evaluation of new software, programs, processes or policies as required.
- Participate in designated staff meetings and attend other meetings and seminars; complete individual training requirements annually
- Perform other duties assigned on a daily basis by the Accounting Manager or Controller
- Intermediate knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Intermediate knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and software applications such as Excel and Word, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
- Able to determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Able to use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
- At least 18 years of age
- Bachelor’s degree and two years’ professional experience with bookkeeping, accounting or other financial management functions
- Familiarity with accounts payables software; experience with Financial Edge desired
- If applicable, have a Washington State Driver’s license, current vehicle insurance and able to be covered on Alpha Supported Living Services’ automobile insurance plan based upon his/her driving record
- Background inquiry clearance from an authorized state agency
