Summary Description
nbkc bank is currently looking for a Chief Operations Officer, EVP to join our team.
The Chief Operations Officer (COO) will be responsible for leading and optimizing the day-to-day operations, ensuring alignment with our strategic vision and business goals. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the COO will provide leadership across multiple functional areas, including risk management, vendor management, information technology and information security. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years' senior management experience at a financial institution, be a data-driven decision-maker with exceptional leadership skills, fostering innovation and accountability and an in-depth knowledge of banking operations, trends and emerging technologies.
This position will work @Flex (a combination of both in the office and at home) based out of our Kansas City, MO office. We are looking for someone who is excited about the opportunity to be in the office while enjoying flexibility to work from home.

What You’ll Do
Operational Leadership:
- Oversee daily operations across all functional areas, including risk management, vendor management, information technology and information security.
- Identify and implement operational efficiencies, process improvements, and best practices to streamline workflows and improve client satisfaction.
- Work across the institution on large projects as needed.
- Help drive technology strategy to ensure the bank’s systems are efficient, secure, and scalable (Bank Core Processing, M365, IT Support).
- Partner with the Chief Technology Officer and technical teams to implement and enhance cutting-edge technologies.
- Champion process automation and digital transformation to enhance customer experience, reduce costs, and improve turnaround times.
- Help oversee the bank’s infrastructure, ensuring that systems, processes, and teams are aligned to support growth and operational excellence.
- Oversee and work closely with the Risk Management and Compliance to ensure the bank’s risk management protocols and internal controls safeguard assets, operations, and client relationships.
- Ensure strict compliance with all regulatory requirements and industry standards, implementing robust risk management practices.
- Serve as a member of the Risk Oversight, Fintech, Compliance, Audit and Asset Liability Management Committees.
- Be the key leader in business continuity planning.
- Partner with CFO to manage operational budgets, cost management, and resource allocation to meet financial targets and drive business growth.
- Closely align with and participating in development of new fintech opportunities and ongoing operations.
- Executive ownership of key bank core processing relationships.
- Collaborate with legal, compliance, and audit teams to maintain transparent governance and mitigate potential exposures.
- In concert with Chief Deposit Officer, other senior leaders and the fintech partnership team, actively participate in the evaluation, review, contracting and onboarding process of new partnerships, as appropriate.
- Follows all applicable laws and regulations.
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
- 10+ years of leadership experience in fintech, payments, banking operations, risk management, and/or IT.
- Previous C-level or senior executive leadership experience in a bank or financial institution preferred.
- Strong expertise in vendor negotiations and core banking systems.
- Experience leading regulatory and compliance functions.
- Proven track record of driving operational excellence, scaling teams, and implementing strategic initiatives in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
- Demonstrated success in managing cross-functional teams and delivering on ambitious performance targets.
- Strategic thinking and executive leadership.
- Strong financial acumen and operational management.
- Ability to drive innovation and fintech collaboration.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate diverse teams.
- Strong analytical mindset with a data-driven approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Strong regulatory and risk management knowledge.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with executive teams, regulators, and partners
