Camp Leaders support the planning and implementation of the Catalyst Camp’s program for school age children ranging in grades from TK-8 grade, depending on the site. Catalyst Camp Leaders must be able to facilitate a variety of age-appropriate activities, support children’s’ social emotional development, and ensure all children are supervised at all times in a healthy and safe environment.

The Camp Leader II is accountable for supporting the Camp Supervisor as a secondary manager of staff and overseeing daily operations in the absence of the Camp Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions:

  • In absence of Camp Supervisor, acts as first point of contact for day to day communication with families and location lease representatives.
  • Collaborates with the Camp Supervisor to coach, support and provides feedback to staff in both one-on-one as well as in team meetings so that they can deliver their best.
  • Implement and maintain intentional, enriched, and supportive camp environments connected to curriculum and quality experiences that are appropriate for all children.
  • Provide for a progression of activities within the framework of individual and group interests and abilities.
  • Uses stories, songs, games, skits, camp names and other elements of camp culture to create a camp atmosphere.
  • Provide excellent customer service by establishing and maintaining authentic connections and reciprocal, culturally responsive relationships with children, youth, families, and camp team.
  • Keep children/youth healthy and safe by connecting proper supervision, positive interactions, camp culture, and healthy habits.
  • Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to Camp Supervisor.
  • Help the campers with daily self-maintenance tasks and taking care of personal belongings.
  • Follow, model, and uphold all safety and security rules, general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship.
  • May communicate the Catalyst Camp program offerings to prospective parents, families, schools, and communities.
  • Supports Camp Supervisor in ensures and maintaining a reciprocal partnership with leased location representatives.
  • Provides input to Camp Supervisor regarding end of season performance reviews

Work Environment

  • Be active in outdoor and indoor programs
  • Be physically and mentally capable of interacting with children up to 13 years of age, meeting all their needs and ensuring their safety
  • Be aware of and implement safety guidelines; report any health & safety issues or incidents to management, and remain calm if providing first aid (as needed) during emergency situations

Camp Leaders Are Responsible For The Set Up And Close Down Of Various Camp Program Elements On a Daily Basis And Will Routinely Be Exposed To Indoor And Outdoor Elements. Camp Leaders May Be Required To:

  • Push, lift, carry, and hold various objects up to 25 lbs - by individual or team effort - such as ladders, sport-equipment, emergency back packs, food coolers, hand truck/dolly, tables & chairs, classroom furnishings, and other similar program materials.
  • Remain outdoors for extended periods of time.
  • Traverse various terrains (grass, blacktop, dirt), slopes (hills and mountains), and heights (ladders, playgrounds).
  • Be aware of and implement safety guidelines; report any health & safety issues or incidents to management, and remain calm if providing first aid (as needed) during emergency situations.

Education And Experience:

Education

The MINIMUM formal relevant education required by the position. Experience in lieu of education will be counted as part of the formal education required.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • PREFERRED: In progress or completed BA degree in Recreation Administration, Youth Development, Child & Adolescent Development, Education or related field.

Experience

The MINIMUM relevant experience necessary to qualify for the position. Experience in lieu of education is to be counted as part of formal Education and not as part of the required experience.

  • 1-2 years experience working with School Age children (grades TK-8th)
  • PREFERRED: 1-2 summers of seasonal experience at a residential or day camp (former camper, Leader/Counselor in Training, or camp staff)

Shift Type: Full Time, Short Term (5/28/25 - 8/1/25)

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am - 4:30pm

Compensation: $17.05 - $25.58 hourly
