Description:
The CAFB is seeking an innovative and data-driven Business Data Analyst to help the food bank maximize the use of information systems and data to inform and drive programmatic and strategic decision-making. The Business Data Analyst will play an important role in supporting CAFB's staff to meet strategic objectives through the development of reporting tools, data visualizations, and systems that provide accurate data to measure efficiency and impact.
The Business Data Analyst will become intimately familiar with each of the Food Bank’s main databases, including: NetSuite, NetSuite Analytics Warehouse, Tableau, ArcGIS, MySQL, Salesforce, Key Survey, and others. They will work with departments across the organization in developing reports, dashboards, data processes, tools, and presentations to inform decision-making, as well as providing some training and database management. The Capital Area Food Bank has incredibly diverse data needs and to be successful the Business Data Analyst must be able to manage multiple projects that vary in content, scope, and level of technical and data proficiency from project team members. This position requires an ambitious and mission-driven individual who can think critically and creatively problem solve.

Essential Functions:
- Learn and become proficient in all organizational databases and how they are utilized.
- Support the data analysis and reporting needs for the organization by extracting data from databases and offering insights to staff through analysis and reports that are visually appealing and that effectively communicate complex concepts to nontechnical staff.
- Work across departments to help staff monitor and manage their Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and to address any challenges that arise while analyzing data or creating new data tools.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of organizational and departmental reports, tools, and dashboards to measure the accomplishment of the CAFB's strategic objectives.
- Support the development and maintenance of the CAFB’s Hunger Heat Map, an integral web-based GIS tool utilized by both CAFB staff and the public to visualize and understand the complex landscape of food insecurity and food relief across the CAFB’s service area.
- Support departmental and program evaluation efforts to measure efficiency, impact and provide understanding of return on investment.
- Make recommendations that will drive process improvements related to data collection/processing/analysis, business operations and decision-making processes.
- Support the Senior Director of Analytics to serve as the in-house expert on data analysis and reporting and provide support to staff on data related projects.
Requirements:
- At least 1-2 years’ experience
- Bachelor's degree or suitable experience with analytic reporting, information systems, or other related field.
- Prefer 2+ years of experience working with large data sets, developing analytic reports and creating data visualizations.
- Prefer 2+ years of experience working with Tableau.
- Advanced+ proficiency with Excel, and Microsoft Office Suite. This role requires a high level of proficiency and confidence analyzing AND presenting data within Excel.
- Attention to detail with the ability to keep data organized and to thoroughly document data and reporting systems.
- GIS experience is a plus.
- Survey development and administration experience is a plus.
- Preferred candidates will have experience with SQL and query writing. Successful candidate will be comfortable with database architecture.
- Preferred candidates will have experience with systems administration, integration and automation.
- Quick learner; high aptitude for learning new programs and systems.
- Self-starter; ability to take initiative and independently recommend new directions for analysis.
- Time management; ability to effectively and proactively prioritize at-times large and varied workload with competing deadlines
- Project management; confident leader and effective communicator, able to keep cross-departmental team on track and goal-oriented.
- Good people skills and the ability to work across departments on a variety of projects and communicate data results clearly and succinctly.
- Attention to detail; thoroughness in accomplishing a task through concern for all the areas involved, no matter how small.
- Comfort with supporting change management and communication as technical requirements are translated into new processes that change the daily workflow for staff and/or the system use cases.
- Understanding of program evaluation, monitoring, and impact assessment preferred.
- Familiarity with the fields of food banking, hunger alleviation, or food security preferred.
- Physical activities involve sitting for 80% of the workday.
- Occasionally lifts office supplies up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to travel to sites, as needed, throughout the metropolitan area.
- Normal office environment, with frequent tight deadlines.
- Some work may take place in our warehouse distribution center, or at our partner agencies.
- Reports to the Senior Director, Insights and Analytics.
- $65,000 - $70,000 annually.
- Hybrid schedule available; 3 days in office and 2 days remote.
- Regular work hours are Monday through Friday from 9am to 5:00pm.
