About This Position
The Wastewater Plant Operator I is an entry-level job. They help maintain equipment, machinery, and controls for wastewater treatment. The primary shift will be from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm. This wastewater job requires either 5 eight-hour days or four 10-hour days. Incumbents must live within 30 minutes of the facility to respond during emergencies. Operators must be able to work shifts, holidays, and on-call hours as required.

About This Position
The Wastewater Plant Operator I is an entry-level job. They help maintain equipment, machinery, and controls for wastewater treatment. The primary shift will be from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm. This wastewater job requires either 5 eight-hour days or four 10-hour days. Incumbents must live within 30 minutes of the facility to respond during emergencies. Operators must be able to work shifts, holidays, and on-call hours as required.
Responsibilities
- Make plant rounds to check equipment/processes
- Make minor adjustments/repairs as needed to ensure effective plant operation
- Perform routine preventive maintenance activities
- Monitor and control plant flow rates by controlling pumping operations at lift stations
- Complete logs and operator records to document operating conditions and plant data
- Clean and maintain plant equipment, buildings, and grounds
- Conduct laboratory analysis on regulated parameters and documentation
- Conform to all safety rules
- Take continuous education classes to maintain/upgrade ODEQ licenses
- Obtain Wastewater Operator licenses according to the following schedule:
- Temporary license within 10 days
- Class "D" license within six (6) months
- Class "C" Water Operator and Wastewater Works Laboratory Operator licenses within two (2) years
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 2 years of related experience and/or training (preferred)
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
- Good mathematical ability
- Ability and willingness to take required continuous education classes to maintain/upgrade ODEQ licenses
- Ability and willingness to work shifts and holidays, and as part of a rotating on-call schedule to maintain 24/7/365 operations
- Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position
- Ability to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug and audio screenings
- Potential to become an Operator II with experience and certifications
