Position: Middle School English / Literature Teacher
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Middle School English/Literature Teacher who is engaging with students, and confidence inspiring with families. This educator will inspire a love of reading and writing in students, guiding them in the development of critical thinking, communication, and literary analysis skills. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about language arts and committed to fostering a dynamic classroom environment which encourages participation, builds a sense of belonging, and holds high expectations for the success and growth of each student.
Ministerial Character
Catholic schools in the Diocese of Austin are canonically obedient to the Bishop and assist him in fulfilling his ministry and canonical obligations. Pastors, presidents, and principals serve as leaders of the schools to make Christ's mission present and enduring throughout our learning environments and heralded institutions. In order to fulfill Christ's mission, the school leaders employ suitable, chosen collaborators, sharing with them Christ's mission and entrusting to them various responsibilities.
Positions employed in this School help extend the ministry of School leaders in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Essential Duties
- Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school.
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Plan and deliver effective lessons in English Language Arts and Literature for middle school students (grades 6–8).
- Teach grammar, vocabulary, writing, reading comprehension, and literary analysis.
- Introduce students to a variety of literary genres and authors.
- Design and assess assignments, projects, and assessments aligned with curriculum standards.
- Foster a classroom culture that encourages thoughtful discussion, collaboration, and respect.
- Provide timely feedback and support to help students grow academically and personally.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning and student success.
- Communicate regularly with families about student progress and classroom activities.
- Participate in school-wide events, professional development, and team meetings.
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Valid teaching credential or licensure appropriate for middle school instruction.
- Classroom experience teaching English/Language Arts, preferably at the middle school level.
- Strong knowledge of age-appropriate literature and effective instructional strategies.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.

- Ability to manage time well and keep records and gradebook up to date.
- Willingness to learn, adapt, support the team, and mission of the school.
- Strong knowledge of middle school ELA standards, curriculum, and best instructional practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage a classroom effectively and build positive relationships with students.
- Proficiency with instructional technology tools (e.g., Google Classroom, learning management systems).
- Must submit an Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application for Ministry within the first week of employment, participate in an EIM Basic abuse prevention training workshop within 30 days of submitting a complete Application for Ministry, and maintain EIM compliance during the entire term of employment.
