Each year, Legal Aid of Marin (LAM) provides thousands of Marin residents with access to direct civil legal services and resources. Our service areas include: eviction defense and homelessness prevention legal services; wage claims and employment law; and fines and fees alleviation. Staff members work collaboratively to bring legal assistance to the communities we serve by engaging in regular outreach where our clients live, work, and gather in partnership with trusted community-based organizations across Marin. We practice trauma-informed lawyering and are dedicated to increasing equity for all marginalized Marin communities.
Brief Description Of Position
Reporting to the Executive Director, this role supports LAM’s development and fundraising efforts, including: funder compliance; administrative donor engagement; funder and donor growth and strategy; proposal planning and drafting; event coordination; fundraising campaign development and execution; and supporting additional revenue-generating activities, which are critical to LAM’s financial health and stability. This is a new position and an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in launching a career in nonprofit fundraising and development. Duties and responsibilities
The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $75,000, dependent on experience and competencies. This is a full-time and exempt position. Benefits include 15 paid holidays; vacation leave; health, dental, vision, and long-term disability insurance; and retirement plan with employer contribution.

On-Site Requirement
This position will require three days per week of on-site work in San Rafael, California. This position may be authorized for remote work two days per week after an initial onboarding and training period, however, candidates must be flexible to increased on-site work when required by their supervisor and to meet organizational goals.

Duties and responsibilities
- Essential Functions Include:
- Drive funder compliance by preparing grant reports, compiling materials in anticipation of programmatic audits, and ensuring receipt of all administrative deliverables and deadlines relating to and grants and funding sources
- Timely and accurately process donations by drafting acknowledgment letters and entering donation information into LAM’s donor database
- Maintain LAM’s donor database (currently Salesforce), ensuring data accuracy and integrity by updating contact information, documenting nature of affiliation to LAM, recording stewardship activities from all sources (direct contact with Executive Director or Board member, direct mail, checks, monthly donations, etc.), identifying trends in giving, and tracking donor activity and grants received over time
- With oversight by Executive Director and with input from critical program Staff, conceptualize, draft, and compile timely, responsive, and accurate letters of intent, grant applications, and funding proposals including providing technical support to partner organizations as needed on collaborative proposals
- Identify new potential sources of funding and prepare plans for initial outreach and engagement strategy
- Support planning and execution of hallmark organizational events, including but not limited to annual Jam for Justice and Pro Bono Luncheon
- Work closely with Executive Director and Operations Manager to develop fundraising campaigns, email blasts, periodic newsletters, client stories, communication strategies, LAM’s social media calendar, website content, and other promotional activities to ensure donor engagement and attract new donors
- Collaborate with Director of Programs and Operations Manager to conceptualize, draft, and produce LAM’s annual report and other reports highlighting LAM’s impact
- Support Board of Director’s annual Year-End Giving campaign
- Drive annual Giving Tuesday campaign
- Develop donor lists, giving reports, and other materials to support LAM’s overarching development strategy
- Support additional activities centered around generating organizational revenue
- Provide administrative support to Operations Manager and Executive Director as needed
- Staff community-facing events and stakeholder convenings when requested by Executive Director
- Qualifications Include:
- Demonstrated commitment to LAM’s mission and serving marginalized and underserved Marin communities
- At least two (2) years of experience in nonprofit development or in a comparable role with similar essential functions
- Passion for and excitement about mission-driven fundraising and development
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively and respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including survivors of trauma, discrimination, and systemic marginalization
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to accurately perform detailed work
- Ability to multi-task, be proactive, and work independently
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and meet deadlines
- Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with Salesforce (or comparable donor database), Microsoft Office, and Canva; advanced graphic design skills strongly preferred; willingness to learn new tools and platforms required
- Willingness to accept feedback and engage in professional growth
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed to fulfill essential duties
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and vehicle insurance
