Position Purpose

The Underwriting Associate will be responsible for providing a high level of customer service by delivering timely responses to agents and policyholders on quotes, amendments, and renewals.

Other Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

Essential Job Functions and Basic Duties:

1 Obtain crucial information to properly evaluate risk.

2 Respond to agent tasks and inquiries regarding policy coverage or information.

3 Process policy changes requested by agents.

4 Effectively and consistently make critical decisions.

5 Participate in audits of peers and agencies work product.

6 Consistently demonstrate ability to prioritize tasks of varying complexity and urgency.

Other Job Functions

1 Assist in training new and existing agents.

2 Visit agents in person, minor travel possible.

Physical Activities And Requirements Of This Position

Finger Dexterity: Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together. Ability to proficiently type and ten key.

Talking: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Repetitive Motions: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Average Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.

Average Visual: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products.

Physical Strength: Sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 10 lbs of force occasionally.

Mental Activities And Requirements Of This Position

Reasoning Ability: Ability to analyze, use good judgment, and to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization. Able to interpret various instructions.

Mathematics Ability: Ability to perform basic math skills; use decimals to compute ratios and percents, and to draw and interpret graphs.

Language Ability: Ability to explain in writing and verbally underwriting decisions and processes.

Qualifications

Education/Certification: College degree, CPCU or equivalent experience.

Required Knowledge: Understanding of business service functions.

Knowledge of related computer applications.

Experience Required: 1+ year(s) prior experience as a Personal Lines Underwriter.

3+ year other insurance experience.

Skills/Abilities: Strong typing abilities. (55 wpm)

Well organized and attentive to detail.

Excellent phone skills.

Good communication and public relations skills.

Strong problem-solving abilities.
