Job Description
UF Information Technology (UFIT) is currently seeking an entry level IT Infrastructure Technician to join Infrastructure and Communication Technology (ICT), a unit within UFIT.
Employment with UFIT provides an excellent opportunity to work with other employees who are dedicated and focused on understanding and interpreting the technological needs of the University of Florida’s innovative and inspirational community.
As part of ICT, you will join the Tier 2 Network Support team, which is the team that primarily works on the adding, removing, changing, and repair of infrastructure elements of the campus existing networking footprint, including remote off-campus locations around the state of Florida. As part of ICT, you will support and maintain moderately complex network systems. As part of the Tier 2 Network Support team, you will troubleshoot and develop network and communications solutions alike across campus.

Benefits
Full-time TEAMS employees will accrue vacation leave at a rate of 6.769 hours biweekly/22 days annually and sick leave at 4 hours biweekly/13 days annually. In addition, employees are eligible for ten paid holidays each year.
Vacation-accruing TEAMS employees are eligible for four personal leave days/32 hours per year, assuming full-time status, and are intended to give the flexibility to enable units to close from December 26 to 31, when possible, determined on a unit-by-unit basis.
In addition to paid time off, the University of Florida offers a very competitive benefits package.

Some Key Responsibilities And Characteristics Of This Position Are
- Responsible for troubleshooting and resolving moderate complex network issues.
- Troubleshoots and resolves moderately complex network problems, regarding building level, layer-1, and layer-2 network infrastructure components.
- Configures layer 2 network electronics, which includes switches and hubs, as specified in the network design guide.
- Evaluates network performance, performs periodic maintenance, reviews procedures, and documents processes for overall continuous systems improvement.
- Follows best practices for new building construction, data center updates and major building renovation projects, including wall-plate equipment renewal projects. Integrates design standards and special requirements into complete configurations.
- Serves as a technical resource person for coworkers and customers for layer-2 networks on small to medium size buildings.
- There is a special emphasis on statewide WAN including IFAS and Wall-Plate building networks. Other network segments include the campus building LANs, campus wireless access, campus core network, and external WAN connections.

- Knowledge of physical network infrastructure and components.
- Working knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, and ICMP.
- Provide excellent service through professional and courteous interactions with internal and external stakeholders while meeting business needs
