This position is open to current UF employees only.
UF Information Technology (UFIT) is currently seeking a Network Engineer level 1 team member to join Infrastructure and Communication Technology Services (ICT) a unit within UFIT.
Employment with UFIT provides an excellent opportunity to work with other employees dedicated and focused on understanding and interpreting the technological needs of the University of Florida’s innovative and inspirational community.
As part of ICT, you will support a myriad of Construction Management projects through their lifecycle, from design through completion. As a Network Engineer I, you will work closely with UF IT’s Telecommunications Engineers, IT stakeholders, UF’s construction project managers, , UFIT CORE network engineers, to ensure that new and renovated spaces on campus meet the IT needs of faculty, staff, and students. The incumbent is responsible for developing detailed network equipment needs, requesting equipment quotes, planning wireless access point layout, provisioning and installing network switches, wireless access points, and UPS’. The incumbent will also be responsible to document network additions and changes in UFIT’s OneWiki, Pinnacle, and UF Space Tracking, using MS Visio, MS Excel, and various database systems.

Benefits
Full-time TEAMS employees accrue vacation leave at a rate of 6.769 hours biweekly/22 days annually and sick leave at 4 hours biweekly/13 days annually. In addition, employees are eligible for ten paid holidays each year.
Vacation-accruing TEAMS employees are eligible for four personal leave days/32 hours per year, assuming full-time status. These leave days may allow units to close from December 26 to 31, when possible, determined on a unit-by-unit basis.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business administration, or a related field
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), plus one completed CCNP test
Ekahau Certified Wireless Engineer
Experience
Network design, configuration, and implementation
Wireless surveys and troubleshooting
Skills
Advance networking diagnostics and troubleshooting
Written and verbal communication skills, outstanding communicator; interpersonal skills; and the ability to work collegially and interact effectively with all constituencies
Organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects with minimal supervision
Excellent troubleshooting skills
Accuracy, attention to detail, and a customer service-oriented approach and mindset
KNOWLEDGE
Thorough understanding of physical networking principles and their application

- Identifies required resources, designs, configures, and installs layer-1, layer-2 and layer-3 network infrastructure primarily for new construction or renovation projects.
- Identifies resources required for network designs including upgrades, expansions, and enhancements.
- Configures and installs network hardware and software to meet requirements and conform to technical Design Standards (DS).
- Evaluates network performance, performs periodic maintenance, reviews procedures, and documents processes for overall continuous systems improvement.
- Evaluates customer network requirements and makes design recommendations.
- Assists with escalation from other teams for more complex network problems.
- Serves as a technical resource person for coworkers and customers, including network management, systems administrators, and UF research faculty.
