Under the direction of the Laboratory Management Team, the Lab Tech/Chemist is responsible for various laboratory tasks, including testing ILA's product

s and materials, recording results, and reporting findings. This role also focuses on ongoing training to develop skills in test methods, calibration, maintenance, administration, and SAP.

Purpose Of This Position

The Lab Technician plays a vital role in ensuring efficient, accurate, and high-quality filling of lubricant products, contributing to seamless production and customer satisfaction. This position involves filling lubricants into containers using high-speed automated filling equipment, inspecting products and machinery, cleaning the area, and configuring and operating production equipment according to documented procedures.

What You’ll Be Doing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Testing and Reporting: Sample, prepare, and test product blends, raw materials, and finished products in accordance with ASTM/JIS procedures. Record and report test results, identifying any out-of-trend or out-of-specification findings.
  • Calibration and Equipment Maintenance: Calibrate laboratory equipment following established procedures, assist in accuracy control testing and perform routine maintenance, including troubleshooting equipment issues.
  • Production Oversight: Evaluate and release filling purges and stop production if test results are out of specification or defective.
  • Administrative Functions: Enter data into SAP, prepare test sheets and Certificate of Analysis reports, scan and file test results, and manage lab supply purchases.
  • Safety and Spill Response: Assist with small-scale hazardous spill response and actively participate in related training.
  • Training and Skill Development: Continuously acquire new skills, including test methods, calibration techniques, and administrative tasks. Participate in ongoing training and mastery of relevant procedures.
  • Laboratory Maintenance: Assist with housekeeping tasks, such as dish-washing and solvent recycling, ensuring a clean and safe lab environment.

What You’ll Need to Succeed as a Lab Technician

  • Bachelor’s Degree (0-2 years of experience with a degree or 5+ years in manufacturing laboratory without a degree).
  • Strong Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills with proficiency in mathematics, statistics, and identifying out-of-trend results.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience in Laboratory Testing using ASTM/JIS standards for raw materials, products, and blends, with a strong understanding of chemical handling.
  • Excellent Communication Skills in both written and verbal formats, with the ability to present ideas logically and professionally.
  • Strong Teamwork & Collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and actively participate in team meetings.
  • Attention to Detail & Multi-Tasking Ability to ensure accuracy in test results, lab maintenance, and timely task completion.
  • Commitment to Continuous Improvement through participation in Kaizen, 5S activities, and adherence to IS/TS 16949 and ISO 14001 standards.

Experience

5+ year experience in manufacturing laboratory, non-degreed.

Working Conditions

With reasonable accommodation, employees in this position may be required to sit and type at a computer terminal for several hours per day and/or move about with appropriate breaks and perform tasks that require fine dexterity and repetitive motions using the arms, hands, wrists and fingers. This position may also be expected to lift up to 50 lbs.

This position generally works in an inside laboratory environment that is temperature-controlled. There can be loud and continuous sounds, odors, and moving machinery. This position requires the use of safety attire and protective gear. This is not a remote position.
