Position Overview
At Aurora Flight Sciences, we design, build, and fly advanced aircraft and enabling technologies from concept to reality. We are searching for a talented and self-motivated Aerodynamics Engineer to help us create the future of flight. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
Responsibilities
The aerodynamics engineer is responsible for designing aircraft lofts and performing aerodynamic analysis using high- and low-fidelity modeling tools, supporting wind tunnel test activities, and analyzing flight test data to characterize aerodynamic behavior. Under the general direction of the Flight Physics Division Aerodynamic Design and Analysis Group, the candidate will serve as a member of a team dedicated to developing novel air-vehicle systems and executing advanced research in aerodynamics. The candidate will be expected to provide design concepts for and conduct preliminary and/or detailed analyses of aero-propulsion systems. The primary product line for design activities will be next generation air-vehicles applicable for both commercial and military use.

Minimum Requirements
- BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.
- Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in the modeling and analysis of advanced air-vehicle systems.
- Experience in the design and analysis of air-vehicles at various levels of engineering fidelity.
- Experience in conducting aerodynamic analysis using panel methods and vortex lattice codes.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience performing high fidelity simulations using RANS and URANS software.
- Strong English written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable presenting their work in front of senior management or customers
- Travel to support customer presentations or to program meetings will be required.
- Demonstrated ability to use programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, or C++.
- Position is based out of Cambridge, MA or Manassas, VA.
- Must be a US Person
- Masters or Ph. D. degree
- Six (6) or more years of experience in modeling and analysis of advanced air-vehicle systems
- Experience with wind tunnel testing, including pre-test predictions, test data processing and/or post-test analysis
- At least four (4) years of experience with the high-fidelity aerodynamic design and analysis tools such as Pointwise, STAR CCM+, FUN3D, OVERFLOW, Tecplot or equivalent
- Experience with the lower-fidelity aerodynamic design and analysis tools, such as XFOIL, MSES, MTFLOW, AVL, ASWING, XFLR5, OpenVSP, or equivalent
- Familiarity with the Computer Aided Design (CAD) tool CATIA
- Familiarity with flight control design and aircraft simulation
- Research, experience, and interest in the design and modeling of current and next generation commercial aircraft and their state of the art technologies
- Related education or experience in thermodynamic modeling of propulsion systems
- Familiarity in the creation of aerodynamic databases and flight simulation models
- Experience in mentoring other engineers or students strongly beneficial
- Ability to support up to 10% travel
- Minimum Range: $68,000.00 to $120,000.00
- Maximum Range: $83,000.00 to $148,000.00
