Position: Small Tools Technician

Reports To: Equipment Manager / Shop Supervisor

Job Summary

The Small Tools Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and managing small tools and equipment used in heavy construction projects. This role requires a strong mechanical or automotive background to troubleshoot and fix tools such as chipping guns, small pumps, chainsaws, and chop saws. The technician will also oversee the inspection, storage, and inventory management of hoses and other frequently used job site equipment, ensuring they are properly maintained and available for use.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair small construction tools and equipment, including chipping guns, small pumps, chainsaws, and chop saws.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to extend tool lifespan and minimize downtime.
  • Inspect, clean, and store hoses and other equipment returned from job sites.
  • Manage tool and equipment inventory, ensuring accurate tracking and availability.
  • Ensure all tools are in safe working condition before being dispatched to job sites.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues with power tools and small machinery.
  • Organize and maintain the tool storage area for efficiency and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with field crews to understand tool performance issues and provide necessary repairs or replacements.
  • Follow company safety guidelines and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification in mechanics, automotive repair, or a related field is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in tool repair, mechanical maintenance, or a related role.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems in small tools and equipment.
  • Familiarity with construction tools and equipment brands such as Hilti, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Stihl, Honda, Wilden Chicago Pneumatic, and APT.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks in a shop environment.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
