Description

The Payroll/Benefits Specialist is responsible for processing payroll, recording payroll expense and benefit administration. Supports the accounting department with payroll and benefit balancing, assists with budgets and benefits analysis, and performing other special projects as assigned to support the vision of the Credit Union

What You'll Do

Payroll Processing

  • Process and post bi-weekly payroll for all credit union employees
  • Code employees to the proper departments and post expenses to the appropriate general ledger accounts, cost centers, and branches including set up of new general ledger accounts
  • Reconcile processed work by verifying entries and comparing system reports to balances
  • Generate reports on employee wages, deductions, and taxes
  • Responsible for the accuracy of all payroll and deduction reports
  • Resolves payroll discrepancies and answers any employee payroll queries
  • Maintains all payroll operations according to company policies and procedures
  • Processes and issues W-2 forms to employees
  • Prepare census data for employee benefit plans
  • Creates payroll reports for management and auditors
  • Responsible for Verification of Employment
  • Responsible for timely remittance of applicable payroll tax payments and preparation of payroll tax reports
  • Protect Credit Union’s values and keeps information confidential

Benefit Administration

  • Set-up and maintenance of life events that lead to benefit changes
  • Assistance with open enrollment setup and implementation of changes
  • Set up and maintain employee benefit records in the payroll system
  • Perform any necessary calculations for employee benefits
  • Monitor enrollment dates, leaves, and adds or deletes employee benefits to and from the payroll system as required
  • Calculate, send, and reconcile changes and amounts due to the respective vendors and initiates payment of invoices
  • Answer employee questions as it relates to all employee benefits
  • Understand the plan design for all employee benefits to ensure compliance
  • Responsible for applicable change of benefit reporting
  • Manage annual year-end payroll and benefit tasks
  • Collects COBRA and retirement premiums and reconciles monthly billing
  • Manages benefits communication for terminated employees

Accounting

  • Responsible for the balancing of the general ledger accounts related to payroll and benefits
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and following up on errors and offages
  • Accomplish accounting and Credit Union mission by completing special projects as assigned
  • Assist with accounting/settlement tasks as necessary

You’ll Need

  • An Accounting Degree from an accredited two or four-year school or four to six years of accounting/payroll/benefits administration experience preferred.
  • Superior interpersonal abilities in order to represent Dupaco in a positive way. Ability to get along with diverse personalities, tactful, mature, flexible.
  • Excellent communication skills with strong written and oral presentation skills, for both internal and external credit union communications and relations.
  • Self-motivated with good reasoning abilities and sound judgment.
  • Proficiency in computers; ability to learn in-house application software knowledge and the ability to manage various accounting programs and systems.
  • Resourceful and well organized with the ability to prioritize work assignments efficiently. Ability to accurately handle large volumes of details and multi-task effectively.
  • Ability, availability and willingness to work flexible/additional hours as demanded by the work load.
  • Exhibit strong critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and sound decision-making skills in complex situations.
  • High level understanding of the importance of confidentiality.
  • Ability to be a self starter.
  • Ability to work both with a team and autonomously.
