Description

Location: 600 University Blvd, Ste L, Harrisonburg, VA 22801

Hours: 8:00 am-4:30 pm, full time status, 32 hours/week

Overview & General Responsibilities: The Controller guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures and internal controls. Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits and providing information to external auditors. Financial Oversight & Analysis

  • Provides management with analysis and information vital to decision-making.
  • Compiles, reviews, and projects financial information related to company operations.
  • Analyzes reports and data to summarize relevant insights on business impacts of operational decisions.
  • Develops and monitors key business performance metrics and benchmark analysis.
  • Assists CFO with budgeting, forecasting, and capital structure evaluations and analysis.

Audit & Compliance

  • Coordinates activities of external auditors.
  • Prepares accurate and clear audit papers and schedules in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits and supporting external audit processes.

Systems & Technology

  • Serves as an expert-level user of the company’s accounting information system.
  • Reconciles data from other systems (e.g., payroll) back to the general ledger.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting systems and databases; research and recommend improvements as needed.

Leadership & Professional Knowledge

  • Responsible for supporting the process of hiring, training, and leading assigned accounting staff
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of financial accounting and management practices specific to the senior living industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • CPA or CMA designation.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience. Non-Profit experience is helpful.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Requires minimal supervision and is self-directed.
  • Previous leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated use of strong judgment and quality decision-making, incorporating data, analytical skills, and the wisdom of experience.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting and payroll systems as applicable. Strong aptitude with computing systems, organizational skills, and business/accounting experience used to promote accuracy and efficiency.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to read and comprehend all types of written materials, strong public presentation skills.
  • Ability to work with confidential information and maintain its’ integrity.
  • Strong customer service skills; maintain a hospitality approach and diplomacy when engaging all individuals to sell cross-functional processes while at the same time being open-minded and able to adapt to change and drive continuous improvement.
  • Travel to campuses as needed to support accounting functions.

Physical & Environmental Considerations

General office environment with normal lighting levels, temperature ranges, air quality, ventilation, and low noise levels.

Lifts, carries, pushes, or otherwise manipulates equipment and office materials weighing up to 20 lbs. Always use proper lifting and moving protocols and techniques. Consistent with an office environment, such as slips, trips, and falls.
